So someone said 49ers could trade a pick for him... what about a player? Is that even possible? Can we have Joe Staley?
I'm all for doing whatever it takes to remove smith from power but to be having this discussion so frequently in the middle of the playoffs - regardless of how hopeless this game is - is pretty annoying. I'm getting more and more of a feeling that BoB simply doesn't want to be here anymore. Otherwise it doesn't make a lick a sense why the head coach would even be entertaining this discussion at a time like this.
These stories are not real. Belichick is making these up and leaking them to become a huge story to mentally hurt and distract the Texans' players, coaches, and the organization, and then make them to lose to the Patriots Saturday night. This is genius plan from Belichick. Don't be fooled. Patriots = Cheaters
Sorry for lack of clarity. I meant there aren't any examples of O'Brien not getting what he wants personnel wise
True but Ben is usually reliable and has the news first before other media people report it. Maybe he's right on this one too. Guess he meant Oz being forced on him ?
Well I'm sure he's right about O'Brien wanting more control. I just think O'Brien has pretty much had full say in the roster and it's terrible. But O'Brien is leaking that he doesn't have any control to get Rick out of there
Rick's been really good at the first rounders and finding those late round gems/UDFAs no one else is looking at. He just sucks at everything else and while I am not a big Rick fan, not sure if BOB would be any better
Maybe the disagreement is that Rick Smith is saying "you wanted speed, i gave you speed. Two RBs and two receivers. You wanted a QB you can coach up, I gave him to you. Why does your offense still stink?" Lol
i don't necessarily think that there is any significant disagreement, I think this is just a power grab by BOB.
He felt bringing on Ed Reed would be a great idea. He pursued and signed Brock. He also presided as a GM over a 2-14 team. What else is there to judge?
Let Rick do what he's good at, or rather, best at - manage the cap. Rick hasn't done a whole lot, except nail first rounders, most of which were picks of the head coaches. Hell, Wade Phillips gifted us with JJ Watt. I would take O'Brien having more control 100 times out of 100 in the scenario of that or losing him. Unless the niners are willing to part with something like: their second round pick this year, and a first next year. Next year is a great QB draft.
Why do we give coaches credit for the good picks and then blame Rick for the bad picks. What's the logic behind that? He is the GM. Give him credit and blame. He manages the scouts. He makes the call. He pulls the trigger. He also listens to the coaches. For all we know, the coaches advised him on his bad 3rd round picks.
Smith himself has never denied how Watt ended up being picked. Likewise, he'll probably never admit that him and his Denver ties were a driving force towards targeting Brock. At this point, they just need to get one guy in charge and give him full reign... and given that Smith has proven that he's incapable of handling all decisions (let alone just a few decisions), I'd rather it not be him.
