No joke, the Wild Card win over a third string QB already bought breathing room for BOB and Smith well into the next decade.
Brock will almost always get the nod over Savage by upper management since they are the ones that have a vested interest in squeezing blood from a turnip... It would make sense to start Savage, but being that they won and Brock didn't mess it up AND he gets paid a lot of money, they want to ride him till the wheels truly fall off, I guess. They have hitched to the defense, start Brock but keep him on a short leash..if he craps the bed, bring in Savage. Tho I wish Savage would start.
I'm starting to think this is all overblown nonsense. You have to go 2-14 to get fired from the Texans. Maybe BOB resigns, but he ain't gettin' fired.
Yes this has to do with Brock Lobster since it's apparent BOB wanted to go another direction and got overruled. But it's not just Brock, it's Charles James, Ryan Mallett, and other decisions we're not aware about. BOB doesn't need to ask Smith for permission and that's what happens. BOB wants a complimentary GM that works to fulfill BOBs vision and frankly he deserves that power just as if not more than Smith. Smith is a nobody in the NFL.
BOB will get his way because he has 3 winnings seasons, back 2 back division championships, and a recent playoff win. His stock is at an all time high. Smith will be promoted, demoted, fired, whatever but he will lose some power.
When Smith vetoed BOB in front of the entire organization on Mallet I think that cemented BOBs hate for the setup. Smith exposed BOB in front of his players and killed any accountability that BOB was/is trying to cultivate. Of course we got smoked against Miami the next day which only proves the players were pissed and not focused on the game because Mallet was still on the roster after all the **** he pulled. This is where McNair's nice guy attitude hurts the team because he hired a guy who is fiery and all about accountability no matter who you are, and then you don't let him do his thing. And so far McNair's too nice to hurt Smith's feelings and dump his ass. Really intense people who know what they want don't deal well with vacillaters like the McNairs.
Wait. So you're saying the right thing to do was to go into the game with only one active QB? Are we still debating this? It wasn't like Smith said Mallett had to play, he just needed to have a backup QB. If anything, Smith talked O'Brien out of doing something totally stupid. Let's not forget how O'Brien botched the whole Mallett/Hoyer deal multiple times. Fiery and and intense isn't always better than calm and collected.
I don't buy it. BOB got Smith to pick up Mallett because BOB wanted him and then BOB lost his temper and wanted Smith to do something stupid and he told him no. They still cut the player, they just weren't going to put the team in a bad spot.....well a worse spot than BOB put them in when he decided he wanted Mallett and Hoyer to be his 2 QB's. When it comes to that incident, BOB has no room to speak.
This is exactly what O'Brien wants you to think. Sounds like the leaks are working. Problem is, O'Brien was given significant say over personnel (final say over roster it was initially reported) and Smith has always just gotten the guys the coach wanted. Look at all the moves, they've been driven by the vision O'Brien has for the team (new england South) It hasn't worked so he's trying to blame Rick
Belichick would have cut mallet and played without a QB if he had too. A backup QB for one game doesn't matter in the big picture of building an accountable organization where there are no stars and everyone is responsible for doing their job.
So, having your punter take snap is showing u want to win? That is the 2nd DUMBEST thing someone has said on this board. The other was lets pick up a QB that doesnt know the system and play him in the playoffs because no one will have film on him....LOL.

And anyway that isn't a really great example because they ended up doing what O'Brien wanted- cut Mallet Of course it was O'Brien who really wanted him here in the first place. The bumbling boobs on Kirby all thought it was a wise idea to give Mallet and Osweiler multiple starts. No one should claim victim, least of all QB guru O'Brien.

So in your mind Belichick would have done something stupid and emotional, I disagree. Honestly though, if Belichick was the head coach, he wouldn't have created the situation in the first place. How many years was Mallett in New England as the primary backup without incident? You can still hold people responsible without being an overly emotional idiot about it.
He was right for wanting to cut Mallet before the game? He was right for trading for him, giving him a new contract and starting him several games over Hoyer?
