This re-states a lot of what I've been saying all along and why I simply don't believe the media BS any more this time around than I did last year.
Bill has already mastered the D'Antoni/Morey "three" philosophy. Who's better at threes: Rockets or Texans?
by Next week we're going to have "experts" reporting the relocation of the Texans to California should Bob mcnair sell to a possible buyer, 90% sure but if it doesn't happen, don't be surprised.
There is nothing bizarre about it. Whatever happened one year ago here, those tragic memories are still fresh. Everyone knows if the Texans will lost this weekend to the 3rd string QB of the Raiders, it will be such an embarrassing achievement adding to a sorry ass mediocre season, win or loss, the chance of our QB being the laughing stock material in the weekend is very high. And even if we will win this game, we are probably looking to another onslaught next week at a place which we scored zero points against another 3rd string QB not long ago.
This is more about Rick Smith than it is about O'Brien but the Texans have been through this before. How many GMs have been able to field playoff teams with multiple instances of major players (especially QB) getting hurt or having horrible play. And it's happened with two coaches. With Kubiak, the Texans won a playoff game with a 3rd string QB and their best pass rusher (Mario) injured. Last year it was without their best offensive player (Arian) and a disaster at the QB position (including forced to start a 3rd stringer). This year, their best player is on IR, horrible QB play, and injuries to every position group on the field except special teams. When you put it that way, that's one heck of a roster.
BOB is 14-4 against an AFC South that is, collectively (minus the Texans), 52-92 the past three years with two winning seasons (out of a possible 9). It has featured 2-, 3-, 3-, 3- and 5-win teams over that stretch. That means he's 13-17 against the rest of the NFL, including 4-12 against playoff teams (including one playoff loss, which was a 30-0 embarrassment). If Indianapolis hires a competent GM/HC and the Titans can build on a 9-win season, BOB's days of padding his record by chewing up and spitting out an inferior AFC South will come to a depressing end. Otherwise, CLEARLY a team on the rise. DON'T YOU DARE FIRE THIS GEM OF A COACH, BOB MCNAIR! HOW WILL WE EVER FIND ANOTHER ONE WHO CAN BEAT BAD TEAMS AND WIN 9 GAMES EVERY YEAR?!?!
THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE OTHER TEAMS IN THE DIVISION WHO CAN'T BEAT BAD TEAMS AND WIN 9 GAMES EVERY YEAR lol I sorta agree but I think of this with the baby and the bathwater analogy. The baby, in this case, being the defense, and the bath water being the offense. Or more specifically, the bathwater is the quarterback. The new head coach will have to be one who is okay with having a former head coach and a very competent DC who wasn't his guy on his staff. This rarely happens. See Wade Phillips. A new head coach will want to pick his staff. Leave the baby, and throw out the bath water. Fix the offense! I don't care if O'Brien is supposed to be an offensive guru; force him to hire more competent staff on the offensive side of the ball.
I agree with the underlying basis of this post. OTOH, I'm not sure ANY coach in the NFL would do any better with the roster over the last three years. It certainly hasn't been pretty, and certainly they've botched the QB position entirely, and that will drive the success of this regime over the next few years. Any coach hired will have the same problem. Which is the same problem for the Browns, Jaguars, Bills, Jets, Bears, 49ers, Rams.... QB. If you look at the Houston QB situation and group them with other teams with similar QB situations, their in this group of teams. And everyone of these teams has been much worse than the Texans over the last three years.
Still the most ridiculous, forced storyline in the NFL. I seriously liked it better last year when people were pushing the idea that he hated the Texans so he was going to leave to go coach at Maryland instead. At least that was funny. This is basically the same thing just less specific and not as funny.
Outside of the QB, this roster is actually pretty good. If this team was healthy, they would have won at least three more games.
It's going to take a whole lot on the strangeometer to top '93 for me: 1-4, Babygate, Jeff Alm, 11 straight, Ryan-Gilbride, Montana. I do get your point about almost total disinterest in the playoffs.
Yeah, but they weren't healthy. No doubt the team has pieces. and Romeo has done a great job coaching d. But point is with the QB f'd up situation, and this roster, its not like Bill B. would be coaching this team to 12+ win seasons.
Wtf is cuck? I've seen you use this like five times now, and have no clue what it's supposed to be. Is it some sort of new age term kids are using nowadays like turnt, drunk, raw, or brah? Get off my lawn!!
