Damn... ya'll caught the .25% and the 300 hits... :( I guess I am in the wrong thread... I was talking about my days in little league back in Mexico. :(

I really didn't think much of the comment and I disagree with it. But for some reason it inspired me to look up those stats. I thought it made for an interesting comparison regardless of what conclusions you draw from it.

congratulations on your internet victories. remember..it's always important to try to alienate as many people as you can while proving how right you are.

3 hits closer to 3000 last night.

The sad thing is, in the face of EVERYBODY on this whole forum, you believe your stuff is "logical". Once again, everyone else is wrong, and you're right. The only thing funnier than your relentless defense of the mindless drivel you call "logic" is your comical arrogance about it. Like a 5-year-old being proud after he crapped his pants.

as usual, since you have no defense for the facts presented in this thread, you resort to derailing the thread with personal attacks.

the only thing funnier than my "relentless defense of the mindless drivel i call logic" is how much you let one internet message board poster grate on your nerves and get your panties in a bunch. i love it.

Was amusing that all the offense came from Biggio/Burke/Everett/Ausmus.

Seriously, What do you have against Biggio anyway? Do you not think he is trying as hard as he can? If you do believe he is trying and he is just over the hill and can't play any more, then your roid rage should be directed toward Phil Garner and the people making the decisions to play him. He is a player and wants to play and will do so for as long as he is given the chance. How can you blame him?

I've seen you personally attack Biggio multiple times. He is a guy that has probably done more for this franchise that we love than just about anyone else. And that is why most of us here can't stand you and would love to see you banned for good.

For anybody that didn't notice it last night, Biggio's numbers were on par with half of the A's team. Biggio can still hit against lefties like Nick has been saying throughout this thread. He could actually be valuable to this team with his ability to hit lefties. he is now batting .300 against them.

Look, there's some value to the arguments to hit Biggio lower in the order, especially against right-handers. It's also valid that Biggio is not the player he was, and as such his value to the team is not what it was. It's also OK to be frustrated with his performance.

It's this "embarrasment to the 3K hit club" and "Biggio is a loser" nonsense that is illogical, juvenile, and stupid. Of course, that is followed with "you're a blind homer!" and "you Biggio worshippers!!", which only proves the point. Then when someone posts his way in kind he gets all offended. Awesome.

....of this list, only these were able to accomplish this feat with ONE team:

    Pete Rose
    Ty Cobb
    Stan Musial
    Carl Yastrzemski
    Willie Mays
    Cal Ripken Jr.
    George Brett
    Robin Yount
    Tony Gwynn
    Al Kaline
    Roberto Clemente

If Bidge retires after this season, he will join this sublist of the 3000h club, of players in the 3000h club to play their entire career for one team:

    Stan Musial
    Yaz
    Cal Ripken Jr.
    Brett
    Yount
    Gwynn
    Kaline
    Clemente
    Bidge

    Pretty elite company.

With economical state of the game, Biggio could very well be the last name added to this list.

How any true Astros fan could possibly even question Biggios legacy, sickens me.

He's also about 2 doubles away from being #6 all time on that list.

Can you imagine knowing that only 5 other guys in the entire history of baseball hit more doubles than you?

Could you imagine what his numbers would look like if he actually signed with Colorado?

    Stupid loyalty........so selfish!

    5 extra-base hits away from 1000.

A dozen more after that & he'll pass Ernie Banks & Rogers Hornsby into the top 25 all-time.

I think I heard/read that if/when he passes the current number 6 (Nap Lajoie), he'll have the most doubles ever for a right-handed batter (Pete Rose number two all-time was a switch hitter).

Bidge has had an incredible career.

    Tris Speaker - 792
    Pete Rose - 746
    Stan Musial - 725
    Ty Cobb - 724
    George Brett - 665
    Nap Lajoie - 657
    Craig Biggio - 655

Totally agree with you, but at what point do you direct your anger toward the manager. Does he really hate Biggio because he is playing? If you were Biggio, would you say "No I don't wanna play today because I am hurting the team"

Believe me I am frustrated with his performance and if the team said, ok you are going to bat 7th until you do better, I am fine with that. But that anger can't be directed toward Biggio. I couldn't stand Lidge in the closers role when the season started, but why would I hate on Lidge for that. That was the managers dumb call to make that happen.

    just playing devil's advocate...

i think those who direct their ire squarely at biggio are doing so because they feel he should retire rather than hold the team hostage by going for a personal, individual record.

obviously, in the best of both worlds, biggio would be pursuing the record AND helping the team. but with his hits coming so infrequently and at the expense of other players' playing time....

me, personally, i don't think garner has a choice but to play him, at least until he gets the record. what'll be interesting is how much biggio plays on the road once he gets within a few hits. they're on the road july 13-22, a reasonable timeframe for him getting #3,000. do they hold him out so he can do it at home....? and if so, does that shine an unfavorable light on what they're doing....?
