I agree. Rafer maybe is not that bad but we need a real starting playmaker who can make his shoot. Rafer just ain't consistant.
That's why I don't know why people don't like Mo Williams. Really good shooter from 3 and mid range. Good penetrator, young, and will get that 17-20 for this team.
He is pretty good shooter, I agree. But the problem is he is similar to Alston for me. Mo Williams will not be a great playmaker for this team, plus he is SELFISH. We don't need guys like that
we definitely need a big man in Roy Hibbert or Chris Douglas Roberts, not some french piece of trash Nicholas Batum....the only "ok" french player in the nba will be tony parker even though he plays on the spur...so nvmm i guess there are no good french players
People... Rafer Alston 1) can't/doesn't penetrate and 2) is the worst shooter of all starting PGs in the NBA. Is there a single team in the entire league that would feel content with a starting point guard that fits that description? I don't care how good you think his ball-handling skills are... or any other set of skills an Alston-supporter may try to argue balances out, or outweighs, his weaknesses. The fact is that he is so weak in the two areas above that you don't even need to analyze the rest of his game. THE ROCKETS NEED AN UPGRADE AT POINT GUARD FAR MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. END OF STORY. Morey knows it. Adelman knows it. For some reason, there are a handful of fans that don't see Alston for what he is. The same goes for Luther Head. Relative to other starting PGs, Alston is not even an average PG. He is a bad PG. A very bad PG. The ONLY reason he remained the starter last season is that everybody else they brought in was either terrible (James, Francis), injured (Francis) or too raw (Brooks). Adelman openly said that he expected Francis to be his starter. In my mind, that was as much a knock on how he viewed Alston coming in as how he viewed Francis. The Rockets will keep trying to fix their PG woes just like they did last summer. Hopefully, by mid-season, Rafer Alston will no longer be on this team.
Alston is not that bad as you thought. He is doing quite well actually. His low overall FG% is mainly because nearly half of his FGAs are 3-points, which is impressive above 35% in the last 2 years.
What are u basing this on? He took 14 shots per and avg 6 asst. How is that selfish and he's not similar to Rafer. How many times did u even see the guy play?
I have seen him playing a lot of times and I tell you- he is not the right guy for Rockets. This team needs a playmaker who can shoot the ball from the outside too. And I just don;t think we could be successful with Williams at PG spot
Our biggest need are based on the injuries sustained by yao/tmac, our streaky play by Rafer, and our future. In 1-2 years, this team will either be screwed if nothing is done, or will be winning a championship if we can make the right changes or transition...
Maybe I'm confused or something, can he orcant williams knock down shots at a high percentage? Can he or can't he hit the 3 ball at a good %?
Upgrade at point is our biggest need - Rafer had some solid stretches, but I still don't believe he's a championship caliber pg. Brooks isnt ready to start consistantly, but he's our future at pg. SG - if we dont deal Tmac, + BJ - we're good SF - Battier + Harris + Novak to spread the floor - we're fine PF - resign Landry (NOT 10m/yr) + Scola + Hayes - not great, but a passable commitee C - we need a younger developmental player whos gonna fill Deke's spot after next year (personally, i'd like to develop Lampe - not young, but could be a project), or maybe a draft prospect. I'd package Raf, Head and our 1st for an upper level PG, and use our 2nd (do we have a 2nd?) on a developmental center.
