IBM, There is no debate about #8 and a player for shane. They couldve drafted rudy, then got a look, displa him in summer league, then trade him. Doesn't that sound familiar?

Over the past 5 years, I have to say the two biggest mistakes were (1) not adequately upgrading the team between the end of the 2004-2005 season and the 2005-2006 season and (2) winning the meaningless games at the end of the 2005-2006 season, thus preventing us the chance to draft Roy.

For #1, the team traded away a contract year Mike James (who then played like a monster) for Rafer when Sura went down and then signed a washed-up Derek Anderson as a 2nd SG. Neither of these moves helped us with our biggest weaknesses (youth and the PF spot), Rafer was his usual inconsistent self and Anderson ended being a huge bust. Wesley had fit well the year before (when Sura was playing the 1 on offense and 2 on defense) but once Sura was out, he was simply too undersized.

#2 has been covered adequately. It just hurts to imagine how good our team would be with Brandon Roy (and how much more likely we would have traded T-Mac before he broke down permanently).

1.Dream helps anyone for free cause he loves the game, he definitely doesn't need any money. He helped Josh Smith from the Hawks. Josh wanted Dream's help.

2.That was JVG's fault, he brought it what he thought he needed. Hey, who knows if a healthy Bobby Sura would have done

We all know the collapse wasn't JVG's fault, but then our suckage under Adelman isn't his fault either.

    3. I'm the last person you'd think who would defend Toyota Center, but its a nicer place. Corporate box seats are now the norm to make money for any club. The Kings are looking to replace Arco. Most corporations now buy up seats. Its not all about the fans anymore. its about the money.

we never intended to draft gay. remember that.

say we didn't trade for battier and drafted that swiss guy, the most we'd be doing today is talking about what if we drafted another guy, just like some do with the choices we made with luther, landry or novak. and what-if talks for any draft are kind of meaningless sometimes.

for example, what if we kept batum or green (along with bobby jackson) this past summer instead of having traded for artest?

There's no point in hindsight. Everyone here is looking for prophets not general managers. Even though they made some wrong choices, they were all fairly reasonable. Nobody knew Sura was done. Nobody knew Gay would be good so fast. Nobody knew that T-mac would turn into Shemac. Nobody knew that Luther would totally lose his confidence after two years.

That said, Rudy Gay would look real good right about now. You have to live with those decisions and all you can ask for is that they don't make any ridiculously stupid moves. I'm happy with what Morey's done so far.

Rudy Gay, even if we drafted him, might be put on the bench by JVG. We'd be arguing who is better: GayMAC or GMAC.

JVG was surely the biggest mistake.

I remember this and you are right, even if this is the most random thread. We didnt sign him because management feared he would be too old at the end of his contract. Well now looking at it, he would have been a perfect fit since he's a better player. He's still playing and was the starting point on a team that went to the finals. Rafer will get us nowhere. If you actually think Rafer will carry this team, then call Miami and Toronto and ask why they got rid of him. Rafer has never shot over 40% for his career. He is stupid. He sees plays develop after they have already developed. His only plus is that Tmac likes him and his turnovers are low. Besides that, he's trash. Oh yeah, he can hit the occasional wide open clutch three.

It didn't have to be Gay, but he was the highest rated talent on the board. What I'm saying if we got artest for jackson and donta greene, on the open market, we couldve gotten more. I remember talking to a few guys and josh childress was availible. He was at least a young, multi tool guy that did a lot of intangible stuff also. If other people knew the rox wanted to move that pick and swift with his mle contract, they couldve gotten a lot more.
