I'll say the Clippers, because they are in a major market and get talented players but there is no optimism surrounding that team. Even when they make great decisions, people still think "They're the Clippers" and will fail to live up to expectations.
Tinman's post about the Clippers being the 'historical' worst prompted me to do a bit of googling... Cumulative Records Grizzlies (342-256) .311 3 playoff appearances (in 13 seasons) - 23% Bobcats (144-256) .351 0 Playoff Appearances (in 5 seasons) - 0% Clippers (1146-2020) .362 4 playoff appearances (in 25 seasons) - 8% Timberwolves (673-935) .419 8 playoff appearances (in 20 seasons) - 40% *Stats do not include previous incarnations of the franchise
The Grizz and bobcats are new franchises who are showing up nowadays .. Bobs had a decent season by their standard and seem on the right track dont be too surpised if they make a real push for the 8th seed in the east .. after larry brown is a legendery Coach .. so is the case with the grizz they have a upcoming coach in lionel hollins they are start to shape up pretty well with a very young very talented core .. will make the playoffs next year .. Clips use to be the worst franchise in NBA history bt theyre facing realy competition from the T-Wolves who are moving from a huge idiot as a GM Kevin McHale to a bigger idiot David Kahn who made the biggest mess in the draft simply cause no other GM in the history of the nba would of went with that scenario .. they had a chance to make something huge and messed it up in the worst way the can .. & with blake griffin i expect thing to change for the clippers .. so right no at this moment David Kahn and his Wolves are the biggest joke of a nba franchise ...
Shirley, you can't be..... oh wait. Nevermind. Suggesting that Lionel Collins will be the catalyst is premature at best. Maybe they do put up 30-40 wins, but they are a darkhorse candidate for the late lottery in the BEST case scenario. We are not evaluating which loser franchise will put it together this year, we are examining the span of each franchise and picking the worst. You may be right about the Wolves heading nowhere fast, but as we all know the climate can change quickly in the NBA. The Wolves have 8 seasons of relevance under their belt, so in terms of a being a joke of franchise they don't hold a candle to the Memphis or the Clips.
Oops, meant to say Lionel Hollins. Doh. Really need that contributing member status to kick in, because I tend to need a lot of revision.
<BR> It's gotta be the Clips. Here's the evidence: The only title of any kind one by any of these four teams is a Division Championship the T-Wolves won in the 2003/2004 season. Snapshots of the franchises: Timberwolves 8 winning seasons out of 20 playoffs: 8 times, lost in round one 7 times, lost in conference finals 1 time overall record: .419 best record: .707 (03/04) worst record: .183 (91/92) Grizzlies 3 winning seasons out of 14 playoffs: 3 times, lost in round one every time overall record: .326 best record: .610 (03/04) worst record: .160 (98/99) Charlotte 0 winning seasons out of 5 playoffs: playoffs? wtf are playoffs? overall record: .351 best record: .427 (08/09) worst record: .220 (04/05) And then there are the Clippers. After 8 years as the Buffalo Braves, they moved to San Diego in 1978 and renamed themselves the Clippers; Donald Sterling bought the Clips in 1981 (Jerry Buss's idea!) for $12.5 million. Since Sterling took over the franchise: 3 winning seasons out of 28 (in that same span, the rockets have had 24 winning seasons and the Lakers have had 25) playoffs: 4 times, lost in round one 3 times, lost in round two 1 time overall record: .341 best record: .573 (05/06) worst record: .146 (86/87) I rest my case. And Sterling's not just a horrible sports team owner, he's a cretin of a human being as well. Check out this story ESPN the Magazine did on him recently: just the highlights full story <BR><BR>
topfive, word. would rep if i could. clips might also be the worst drafting team in nba history (or at least lottery history). the only great pick they've had that i can think of is lamar oden (sic).
The thing with the Clippers is/was that they had the players to build around and make a run at a playoffs berth. They had all those picks but did not use them wisely.
Twolves got a sure HOF in KG and they did nothing in 7 or 8 years. That's the worst a franchise can be.
sorry to Clipper fans, and sorry to Blake Griffin but i think the Clippers are just a waste of money, they should take the team away, OR make it somewhere else where theres other people that love basketball and they dont have a team. because LA already has the Lakers, which probably are the only team LA even watches/cares about.
Grizzlies, by far. Cheap ownership that has little interest in building a winning product. Plus, the Gasol debacle is enough to negate their meager three winning seasons (and zero playoff wins).
Clippers by a mile. They've been stinking pretty much forever, years before Memphis even got the team.
