How many times have you seen TBL? I know it's a bit of a cliche but TBL is a movie that absolutely has to be seen more than once to be appreciated. The first time you watch it you think it's pretty mediocre because you're trying to understand what's going on. Upon repeated viewings, however, you realize that the plot is so surreal as to be incidental to the characters and the situations, and then the genius of the movie hits you. And by you I mean me. Trust me when I say that I don't think anyone has ever seen Lebowski once and thought it was very good, but that most people who watch it again absoutely love it.
Shawshank was excellent. I don't see why you think it's crap. To each his own. I thought Blair Witch was good. I took it for what it was worth and got pretty into it. Same with The Ring. My wife won't let me buy this one to this day. Napolean Dynomite and Big Labowski kicked ass.
Ive seen it atleast 3 times, my TV is mostly on Comedy Central 24-7 and they show it often on there... it's just not funny to me..
I think you hit the nail on the head. I could watch thi movie a hundred times now and not get sick of it.
Some of you guys need to reacquire a taste in movies If you don't like what I like that means your taste in movies suck!! Harold and Kumar kicked ass!!!!
Any Dean Devlin/Roland Emmerich film. Most of the Don Simpson/Jerry Bruckheimer films. I found them mostly on the dumb, loud, transparent formulaic type. Hate to say this but alot of Steven Spielberg's films. He has about as many films that I didn't care for as opposed to his great ones. I think he is clearly a notch below the likes of Kubrick or Scorsese. Individually, Stars Wars: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Good special effects didn't cover up bland acting and dialogue. I still cannot get myself to watch the whole Apocalypse Now movie without sleeping through a major chunk of it.
Chalk me up on the "yawn" list for Lebowski. And I love the Coen Bros, usually. Maybe I will watch again and see if it gets better. Shawshank is easy a top 3 flick.
The Village has to be the most disappointing movie in a long time. Not only was the "twist" trite and predictable, M. Knight killed the suspense halfway through the film by revealing that the monsters were fake. And building up suspense is the thing he's best at. Ocean's Twelve was also somewhat of a disappointment. I love heist pics, and while OT was easy to watch and was funny, it wasn't what I was expecting. And speaking of disappointing Coen Bros movies, I was also expecting more out of Intolerable Cruelty. The casting of Clooney and Zeta-Jones would seem perfect for a 21st century screwball flick. But unfortunately despite their professed love of the genre, the Coens only know the words and not the music to the screwball comedy. Too bad, we need more clever and witty films in Hollywood.
Maybe I missed it....but did anyone mention Godfather 3? Now that was a huge let down. The first two films were legendary, and to have the third suck that bad. I tell everyone to just stop after 2 and skip the third one.
Watching the Big Lebowski on Comedy Central is like watching Michael Jordan play baseball. I watched the first hour of it on CC the first time I saw it, and I thought it was stupid. Then I saw the un****edwith version and thought it a definite improvement. I watched it again and concluded it was probably the funniest thing I had ever seen.
Armageddon had to listen to people say it's the best movie they've ever seen, and upon watching it, it's the worst movie ever (course, I haven't seen Pearl Harbor) horrible one liners, utterly predictable, and I don't think there is a scene in the movie longer than 5 seconds I propose a class action lawsuit demanding our 5 hours back on the other side, I'd never heard of The Evil Dead, and thought it was great
Hey lpbman, if you haven't already, check out "Team America." It's mostly a satire of Jerry Bruckheimer films.
How did you not like Shawshank??? Brilliant movie. BTW, Saw Man on Fire last night. Incredible flick. Denzel is the new Tom Hanks.
Well I just saw Napoleon Dynamite. I thought this would be my kinda movie and it sorta was. Lots of one liners that I enjoyed and the dance at the end was the movies saving grace.
