It is critical to hit on the top 5 pick, or being the dregs of the association for two years has largely been for naught. Which of the top 6 prospects are the biggest risk, and why?
I don't think any will bust. But not all will be franchise type players, or even All Stars. The NBA is filled with talented and uber athletic players with more added each season.
Sharpe is probably the right pick just because we have seen the least from him. But, I picked Banchero. I think the worst version of Banchero is basically Julius Randle, and that would not be great. I should add that I think there is a high probability that Banchero will just be a Randle-type player. In fact, I think it is more likely than not.
Banchero is painfully one dimensional. I feel like unless he goes to Miami, Utah or Golden State he's going to be a bust
There are so many unknowns surrounding Sharpe that I believe some teams/fans will naturally just be more unsure about his success in the league than any other player at the top of the draft And of course, a lot of people don't even bother to really evaluate Chet's game and label him a bust just because of his skinny frame, even though he has yet to play one second in the NBA
If that is the worst possible Version of him then he is the most unlikely to bust. We have different definitions of bust, i think.
I doubt Banchero would be a bust…he could just be a player that puts up numbers, but isn’t that desirable people bring up Julius Randle…if he’s Julius Randle, that’s not a bust per se Julius Randle puts up numbers and has made an All-Star team
Actually the worst version of Banchero is he gets a podcast where he talks about his latest NFT projects and aggressively starts promoting vitamin supplements
I like Ivey but I think he has the biggest busy potential. He's not a great playmaker right now, is not a reliable shooter. If someone takes him top 4 and he never develops outside of what he is now he could be a huge bust imo, since most of what he does well could be negated by NBA caliber teams.
If the only tape we have is him going against high school kids and not against better talent like college its a HUGE risk. at least with JG he was going against Grown man and we saw the flashes.
Chet has a lot of risk for a guy going this high. Take him and you're walking the high wire. Between injury concerns and general bustiality. : ) I want Jabari, but Banchero will be a helluva pro. Beyond that, this draft is a crapshoot...esp. compared to last year's historic haul.
That is the most intriguing aspect of this draft, there are 4 different guys that could conceivably go first overall... Sharpe potentially being a fifth if he kills it at the combine.
Depends. To me, Chet, Sharpe, and Banchero have the highest “bust” possibilities of the group, though I think they all have pretty high floors. With Chet, it’s injury concerns. With Sharpe, it’s the unknown. With Banchero, I worry his style of bully ball won’t translate.
I’m sorry, Sharpe is gonna be good. Worst case scenario he can turn into a defensive stopper- 6’6 - 7 foot wingspan and good leaping ability-
There are likely guys that have an OK career, but if we keep high standards from a Fans/Team perspective. Let's see possible bust trajectory of recent top 5. I'm excluding last draft, since only 1 year. 2020 1. Timberwolves draft Anthony Edwards 2. Warriors draft James Wiseman 3. Hornets draft LaMelo Ball 4. Bulls draft Patrick Williams 5. Cavaliers draft Isaac Okoro ## bust list: Patrick and Issac. Not bad players, but soft bust considering they are top 5 picks. Definitely not a cornerstone. ## Wiseman too early to tell, but to me a #2, he's below expectation. Maybe one day, when Curry/Klay/Dray are all gone. 2019 1. Pelicans draft Zion Williamson 2. Grizzlies draft Ja Morant 3. Knicks draft RJ Barrett 4. Lakers draft De’Andre Hunter >> to the Hawks, after first being dealt to the Pelicans 5. Cavaliers draft Darius Garland ## Hunter probably. Serviceable 12-15 pts role player, but not a franchise guy. Not what teams may have envisioned for a #4. ## If nit-pick, maybe RJ. (soft bust since it's a #3 pick) 2018 1. Deandre Ayton 2. Mavin Bagley III 3. Fat Luka 4. Jaren Jackson Jr. 5. Trae Young. ## Bagley. ## JJJ... maybe, while solid rotational guy, but not a franchise player. 2017 1. Markelle Fultz 2. Lonzo Ball 3. Jayson Tatum 4. Josh Jackson 5. De'Aaron Fox ## Fultz and Josh Jackson ## Josh Jackson on his 5th team already. ## Unpopular opinion, I'd even put Lonzo as a soft bust. Turned into a very solid starter, which is fine... but that was a #2 pick and is not a franchise guy. He bloomed towards the end of his rookie deal. For the un-patient Lakers, he bloomed too late. ----- Every year, at least 1 to 3 of the top 5, are busts or soft busts. For this list probably Sharpe for now, because so little is known of him. And if he's that young, might need more development than the rest, which eats into the value a team hope to get from the cheap rookie deal. Keegan might be one of the more NBA ready. Could have high floor, but maybe limited ceiling. Soft bust if top 5, but solid if 6-10.
