Why will it be a joke? It is only one loss in an extra game that many conferences including USC's do not have. It shouldn't take away from the season OU had.
If KSU can put some more points on the board, it may turn some voters off on OU. I don't think it will be enough to knock OU out of the Sugar Bowl.
Of course- much of that depends on what happens in the computers and the human polls. Most of the strength of schedule component is set in stone by now. From what I've heard, it's going to be extremely close....
BS. If you account margin of victory, then OU hanging 77, 60 something, etc. would help them. Plus OU plays in a tougher conference, lost to a better team, and has played better throughout the year. Also, what Smokey said. Who do you think the MNC game should be? USC vs. LSU. It should be OU vs LSU, although it'd be interesting to see OU vs. USC.
Agreed... the only way OU would lose a spot in the rankings is if they'd lose points on the polls... But, the fact that this is an "extra game", and its being played in Kansas City (KSU's backyard), will also sway some voters into keeping OU at least #2.
Yo Manny... do u honestly think margin of victory should ever be used to determine anything, ever? I always thought that was the biggest joke of the century.
So how long until the b****ing and moaning about only certain leageus having conference championship games begins? Will Trev or Mark bring it up?
It is a valid point IMO. Teams can play themselves each other out of the BCS. Either everyone needs one or they need to go completely.
My. Thoughts. Exactly. I'm convinced it's all in an effort to screw us over. (Kidding, of course, but who'da thought?)
In fact, if there were no conference championships, it would be a step in the right direction for all those "playoff system" hopefuls out there. Right now, schools like KSU would oppose a playoffs b/c they wouldn't be in the BCS picture without conference championship games. IMO, conference championships are ceremonial at best, and always do more harm than good.
Well, you know Nick, let's wait and see what the computers say. If OU drops like 1 spot or so, then yes it is a joke that MOV is not used. Hey, I am not disagreeing with you guys on the Big 12 being a better conference than the PAC-10, but geez, you are acting like the PAC-10 is Conference USA or something. The PAC-10 is a solid 4th, maybe 3rd conference behind the Big 12, SEC, and Big 10. USC is not a TCU, guys. As most people know here, I am a Miami fan so I could really care less who makes it; however, I think it is ridiculous that a team ranked #1 gets hammered in their last game and STILL gets to play in the NC game despite the 2 teams behind them winning impressively.
Problem is they aren't regarded as ceremonial. In basketball, there's regular season champ and tournament champ. Everyone gets to play each other in that system though. Still many coaches want to get rid of tournaments because they're unnecessary. As long as there's a BCS, conference championships will probably stay. I doubt any conference will add them. So the ones with them need to drop them. It's only hurting it's own teams. You can't really determine a conference champion, but it doesn't matter. If 3 of the conference teams are good enough to be in the BCS games, then they should be allowed to and not eliminate themselves.
I agree 100%. The theory of the rankings is who are the best teams now. It is arguable that the best team in the country as of today would not be losing by 35-7
That's what's lame. It's about the whole season. Not the last game. 1. If margin of victory was used, OU would be even HIGHER 2. OU has to play a conference championship and other teams don't
I see your point, but who knows how USC or LSU would have done against KSU. OU would have ran over OSU for sure. That's why I say it should be LSU vs. OU for the MNC.
