Didn't Dirk play well in that series? That's beside the point though. I wouldn't do that trade. Sure I'd love a pure scorer with a sweet J at the 2 guard spot, but.....oh wait we already have one. Say what you will, but Finley is basically an older Mobley. Raef is good, but Ming will more than likely be better. Also Cuban has said already that doesn't want to deal with China because he has gone through so much with Wang. Now Dirk for #1 wouldn't happen, but that's the only way I'd talk to Allas.
Ok ok fine. I retract my previous statements. Maybe I wasn't looking at the big picture, or maybe I just wasn't watching the Dallas vs. Sac-Town series. Either way, in my opinion, the parts that I did see consisted of Finley standing around and Nowitzki getting the ball everytime and/or Nash losing the ball. Also, Finley may be 29 but he looks like hes 33. He just has an odd feeling I think which makes me think that he will never be a "superstar". He was with Jason Kidd back in the day and they had a pretty good team but still they didn't do much. Finley is a SG and his competition night in and night out will be people quicker, younger, and faster then him. Kobe, Cuttino, T-Mac, Ray Allen, and others all are younger, and quicker than him. I still think though that this is a garbage trade and I wouldn't do it. Unless we a get a player that is a superstar or about to become a superstar, don't trade the pick.
obviously cap fillers would be put in to make the trade work... btw...i have read in MANY sites that Lafrentz IS available and if the 1st pick is offered even untouchables like Finley CAN BE AVAILABLE... Hey Rockets fans....ATLEAST DREAM!!
Michael Finley is a good player not a great player. Anyone willing to trade a 19-22 year old potential superstar for a good 29 year old is ridiculous. There are so many laughable and incredibly ignorant statements in this thread: Michael Finley is NOT the cornerstone of the franchise. Nowitzki is #1 and Steve Nash is #2. Finley is a borderline all-star who can score. Micheal Finley is not in his prime. He's definitely on the downswing. Jordan, K. Malone, Hakeem were at their prime at age 29. Finley is not even in the same galaxy. In 3 years, Finley will be another over-paid role player. Is that what the #1 pick is worth these days?
Half-notch? I'd say more like half a mile.. As much as I hate Kobe he is wayyyyy better than Finley. I wish there was a kobe-esque player in the draft.
This year it is. There isn't a clear cut SuperStar in this class. Every player has flaws. You may still find a team that will give up a lot to get that pick this year but in my opinion this is a very weak draft. I wouldn't trade Fin for anyone in this draft including Yao. By the way, Dirk obviously has the most talent, Nash is the engine that makes the Mavs go, but every Mavs fan including Cuban knows that Finley is the leader, and the heart of the Mavs.
