That's funny because that dude from the Lakers forum is wrong. Jordan used to buddy up to players before games all the time so that they might drop their guard a bit during games so he could torch them. While coaching the Knicks, JVG called MJ out in the media on this and labeled him a con artist. Jordan read it and it pissed him off so he took it out on John Starks. JVG brings that story up now and again when talking about not giving great players extra motivation.
