The Big East rankings are artificially inflated. None of the 3 undefeated teams have played anyone that was in the top 25. WVU and Louisville look like good teams, but the rest of the Big East teams are just awful.
Man, ESPN blows...even while WV is getting blown out, they keep trying to defend the Big East and say that WV is a good passing team. "They have 210 yards. They have balance."
Have the Big 12 teams beaten anyone decent outside of conference? I think the Big East is underrated this year and is living on a bad reputation from previous years.
Underrated based on what? They've beaten no one, not even last year (one of them squeeked by a decent Georgia team in a Bowl..whoopie). Big 12 has proven itself year-to-year against top programs. Until they start playing and beating top-tier teams, they are entirely unproven.
Next time we whoop OU's ass when both of us are undefeated, I think all the UT fans should rush the field.
What? You can't rush the field when you beat the #3 team in the country? You can't rush the field when you just overcame the biggest obstacle between you and the national championship game? Stupid Cards fans.
The top B12 teams played each other already. Their OOC is always bad, but there have been games against top competition like OSU, USC and Ore. The BE teams don't play anyone good OOC. There are some sad sacks in the B12, but the BE is even weaker. VT beat both Louisville and UWV last year. Do you think either Louisville or the Hillbillies would run the table in the B12?
It would be one thing if you were 2-5 and beat the "#3" team in the country. Not when you are the "#5" team in the country. At least try to act the part of a legit top ten football team without riding the the coat tails of a BCS conference with crappy teams.
Notice the " " by the way....as someone said above, the Big East rankings are inflated like hell, more so than the currency of Zimbabwe (The Zim Dollar)
I love how ESPN is now saying the Big East is good. Kind of a conflict of intesrest if you ask me, considering they have had a contract to televse Big East games since 1979 (IIRC).
When is the last time Louisville: 1) Played a night game on national TV 2) Has been undefeated this late in the year 3) Beaten a top 5 ranked team 4) Won a game that may very well put them in the NC game (although still a longshot) 5) Won a game that puts them in the drivers seat to earn a BCS bowl Some of you act like only certain schools are allowed to rush the field. Quit being such snobs. Let 'em rush the field.
Sure - the Big 12 played OSU, USC, and Oregon - and we lost ALL of those games. What does that really tell us? Anyone can schedule big teams and lose them. They had a stat earlier today - the Big 12 has *zero* non-conference road wins against major conference teams this year. The Big East has six. (The SEC has 1). The best of the computer polls (Sagarin) has the Big 12 as the worst of the big 6 conferences - Big East is #3: http://www.kiva.net/~jsagarin/sports/cfsend.htm They are not biased based on previous years and the like. Sure, in previous years, the Big East sucked. But this year they have played much better, and the Big 12 showed nothing in the out-of-conference schedule. Frankly, I think the season is playing out like we all want. Right now, there are 4 undefeated teams and they all get to play each other to determine the national title - the playoff system we all wanted. Michigan and OSU will face each other, while Louisville and Rutgers will play. The winners should play for the national title if they all stay undefeated. I don't see how you can deny Louisville a spot if they make it. Imagine if UL was to destroy a good BCS opponent, while Ohio State lost to a one-loss team. UL is the only undefeated team and doesn't even get the national title? That's would be a total disaster.
I'm not talking about other years - just this year. The Big 12 has been beyond awful this year as a conference. Our OOC wins make last year's Big East look good, and that was a truly awful year for that conference. That doesn't mean the Big 12 doesn't have some good teams - the same thing applies to the Big East in my opinion. West Virginia last year beat a top 10 Georgia. Louisville this year beat Miami and nearly toppled Miami 2 years ago as well. Both of those teams have been pretty good for a couple of years now - it's not like they came out of nowhere. The competition may not be the OSU's of the world, but they are legit competition.
I hope you're kidding with this? These are the six BE road victories: KState, UNC twice, Miss St, Indiana, Illinois. Combined record: 15-29. These are some of the worst teams in college football. Best wins: Louisville: WV, mediocre Miami WV: Maryland, East Carolina Rutgers: Pitt, Navy This is terrible. Sagarin's strength of schedule: Best BE season ever. Louis: 70 WV: 89 Rut: 97 Down year UT: 48 Okl: 28 Mizz: 83 For chrissakes, play someone Big Least! You too Boise St!
Mark my words- Louisville will lose to Rutgers next Thursday night ending their hopes for a BCS title game birth. There is going to be a let down for Lousiville following their win and Rutgers is going to be fired up for the nationally televised game. Rutgers will then lose to WV in the last game of the year on Dec. 2. No team from the Big East will be undefeated going into bowl season- book it.
WV and Lou are far better than anyone in the Big12 except maybe Texas. They could hang with Pac 10 teams and ND too. Their offenses could score on anyone, lest we forget Tech put over 400 yards and 30+ points on us. Now they are not the caliber of Mich or OSU and don't have the defensive talent to get to that point, but could give anyone else a good game right now. I sure hope Lou loses because I don't want a NC handed to the Big 10 without a fight (Auburn, Florida, Texas--which have more talent even if they don't havn't jelled). I do think Lou will lose, at Rutgers and at Pitt (probably cold, windy, hard to throw games) will be tough, just got to catch them on an off offensive night.
