Next season, Devin Harris's contract will be expired and it is a Qualifying Offer. I am not sure, but I think he should be allowed to withdraw it this summer and become an Unrestricted Free Agent. I really hope the rockets can get him!
He signed an extension some time ago, plus if he was an expiring why wouldn't NJ resign the main piece in the Jkidd trade?
oh man! do you really watch basketball? Marcus Williams is terrible. everytime Williams gets onto the court, the Nets' lead or tie will vanish and go into deficit. Williams +/- stat is horrible. His passes will spray all over the court into turnovers. Not to mention his forced shots and poor shootings. The Nets need another backup PG next season. I just dont see why Lawrence Frank will play M Williams if he has a choice.
I watch many Nets' games. Marcus Williams is a young pg with great potential. BTW, I don't think he is a bad shooter, his 3p% is 40.4%.
It is good enough for a young pg (2 year?). BTW, Williams +/- stat is not good, may be because he was back up J. Kidd.
Francis will be that guy when he recovers from surgery. It's no wonder he couldn't cut the way Adleman wanted him too.
To be quite honest i believe Francis will come back strong because he gets to see first hand how Adelman wants his team to play and i think he will fit right in there next season. I think Francis will be ok as long as he stays on the court. I think by watching the rockets games lately it will make him work hard to come back strong to fit right in.
Dennis Johnson aint walking through that door... Penny Hardaway aint walking through that door either...
A good big point guard could possibly be Andre Miller. Has become a great player during this season and his jumper has gotten better i believe. But I think when Steve Francis comes back next year, he'll be in so much better shape and will do very well next year as our back up or starting point.
t That's out of the question unless he wants to sign for the league minimum. We're barely going to be able to keep Landry. We will have the same team next year unless some trades go down.
Best chance at a point guard is if Memphis gets the #2 and drafts Derrick Rose. They would almost have to trade Mike Conely Jr (or Javaris Crittenton, which I don't see happening because of his potential as a combo guard) for a big.
Dismissing Francis is shortsighted. You have to give Francis a pass this year because of the knee. The tendon was 70% torn so it must have been very painful to play and especially to jump and attempt those dunks of his. If Francis recovers and plays, he could be very valuable. Might even outplay Alston for his starting job.
It's amusing that some people here still think Steve Francis will ever be of any worth to this team besides having an expiring contract.
I don't think a big point guard is one of problems, nor would it solve anything in our quest for a championship. I'm tired of management looking for the qiuck fix, mortgaging away our future because we think we have a small window in which to win a championship w/Ming & Mac. We got into that mindset with w/Van Gundy, and look where that got us. Yes we got Battier, and I believe he is a necessary piece, but I also believe he cost us too much. We should have gotten another star quality player (or pick), considering the players Memphis had at the time. We have enough point guards, and I think this year has proven, that point guard by committe can work in this system. Our biggest problem occurs when Tracy or Ming is given a breather. Since this thread is about big guards, and Tracy is prone to injury, here goes. We need a quality 2 guard to groom to take over for T-Mac. This is by no means a knock to T-Mac, I believe he deserves the chance to retire with the Rockets, which is why I think there are two collegiate players who should be considered in order to accomplish this. It would also of course provide us points off the bench, to either rest McGrady or replace him if/when he in injured. Considering the number of games these guys play each year, sometimes back to back to back, it should be a given that someone will get injured. First on my list is Brandon Rush of Kansas. He is 6'6, w/the wing span of someone 6'11, who shoots 45% from the floor, 43% from 3-pt land. He is also a good defender who could be a lockdown type player. Imagine him at the 2 in a few years and T-Mac at the 3 position. Second is Richard Roby of Colorado, who has been descibed as a clutch shooter, one of the best in the college game today. He is 6'6, and the half-brother of K-Mart. He has great mechanics, a pure shooter, and can take over a game. He could be our answer to spreading the floor. I've seen him ina few games, and he isn't afraid to mix it up in the paint either. He or Rush could help spread the floor, and I've noticed this year Brandon is taking the ball to the hole more. He has great leaping ability to go along with shooting. He also steals and blocks well for the position. These are my ideas for big guard. I belive this is the better route, than free agency. This is our chance to reload. For anyone who's afraid that we don't have the time to groom someone fresh out of college, remember this is not Van Gundy. Rick Adelman has proven he knows how to groom young players, and remember how quickly R. Gay matured.
Umm, why would they pick Derrick Rose when they already have Conley, Crittenton, as you pointed out, as well as Navarro and Lowry? Either way, Conley is the PG of the future for Memphis and a rare talent, I doubt they would be trading him so early during his development.
