I live in Pearland, and my wife and I went for a walk the other night. We saw toads everywhere just like everyone does in this part of the country, but when I got home, I walked by my very own fence, and I saw a green tree frog. I'm always the first one to spot the deer on a road trip, I always seem to be the one to spot the wildlife during a hike, and heck....I've even seen a mountain lion in the wild....much less the plethora of other creatures I've witnessed. But as abundant as they may be, I don't think I've ever seen a green tree frog in the wild before.
rh -- That's the caterpillar form of the swallowtail butterfly. The bumps on his back end are designed to look like big eyes, in order to trick predators into thinking he's larger and more menacing than he really is. We manage to fit all kinds of big city nature in our little Heights yard. Here's a link to our page on the e-nature website: http://www.enature.com/backyardwildlife/bwh_showhabitat.asp?bwhid=10381
Did anyone see that Insomniac with Dave Attel in New Orleans where he hangs out with the cops when they go on a nutria killing spree. Dave Attel, "In case you were wondering, a LOT of animals were hurt during the filming of this episode." comedy gold
A. That wasn't funny. B. You may as well take it like a man and admit Falcons Talon handed you your ass on that one. Hilarious.
My wife likes birds, so she puts out bird feeders with *special* (read: expensive) birdfeed that only the *good* birds like. Now we have fat squirrels and a bumper crop of rats.
We had a thread about a killer squirrel that got blasted a while back. Maybe you should try to hire the guy who took him out... On a different note...are you related to Pole?
Anyone been up to the Woodlands Resort? They have a lake and it is filled with Nutria, nasty little buggers.
my parents, who live about a mile away, have trouble with poisonous snakes...they also had problems with racoons entering their attic we have woodpeckers in our neighborhood...my son loves those.
I was helping to monitor during the state exam, and as I was directing hall flow with an administrator, she asked me if I had heard about the kid that had a corral snake in his pocket during school and got bit!!! What a moron!
The Catholic Church called them fish, eh? Anyway, here's a good Cajun recipe. Yum Yum. http://foodfest.neworleans.com/recipes/5334.html
I used to work at Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon in Gurnee, IL, and they had a big moosehead in the place. That cracked me up.
It's baby rabbit season here in NC-- happens every year. Sunday night, one of our three cats dragged in a baby bunny. Ever heard a baby bunny cry? It sounds very human-like. The bunny got loose in my office. I set a Hav-A-Hart trap and we had it trapped in about half an hour. Mrs. Giddyup took the bunny out with my young daughters and set it free. They girls were out of their gourds with excitement. The next morning, another one of the cats dragged in another bunny (same one?). This one we were not able to save. Later that morning, the cat came back into my office and threw up bunny innards on the floor. We get bunnies, snakes, mice, chipmunks, birds. It's a real zoo.
Awhile back my me and my friends found this baby squirrel running around and so my friend decides to try to get him to come to him so he starts getting the squirrel to come towards him and the squirrel starts climbing up his leg and up onto his shoulder and just sitting there perched on his shoulder, was surprised the thing didnt bite him, but still pretty crazy.
