First of all...I'm relieved. Didn't want to see a default Triple Crown. The MadMax conspiracy theory goes as follows....the Big Brown team talked soooo much trash coming in to this. Talked about this as foregone conclusion. I was waiting to see someone work to keep him back...even some cooperation in that regard. But it wasn't necessary. The jockey said it all...he didn't have any horse when he hit the final turn. And I think he knew it and that's why he pulled up. Because he knew that if he gave all the horse he had, it still wouldn't be enough to win, place or show. And after all the expectation and the trash talking, he just pulled up instead...so we can all speculate as to what's wrong with Big Brown instead of just acknowledging he got his ass handed to him. I saw nothing in that race to suggest that horse was hurt in any way. He just got beat on a really long track.
I'm glad Big Brown lost. The whole Big Brown team was nearing Roger Clemens arrogance this week. The people who bet on Big Brown to win outright (non exotics) also got what they deserved. Why would you bet on a horse with such low odds?

Conspiracy... He blames the jockey... I went to Lone Star Park this past Saturday and only bet $30, but still, to have him come in last place sucked...sooo many people were PO'd...Everyone bet on Big Brown...THen have a 38-1 odds horse win...c'mon something was up...
The something is that he wasn't that strong of a horse to begin with. He ran the longest race in the TC and didn't have juice at the end. His speed numbers and Beyer scores were average to begin with. Another horse had a wire to wire good day, and that's all it took. I've seen about 15 horses compete in TC events in the last 10 years that I think would have kept Big Brown from winning even one of those races. The trainer is the very definition of ass hat.
He'd have mopped up Big Brown. His Beyer numbers at the Preakness would have left BB in the dust. But Smarty won that race...i'm suggesting there are horses that didn't win that still would have beaten BB. The horse that was the favorite coming into the season was War Pass. I told a friend back in the spring that what I was reading about that horse a while back made me think he was a very real TC threat. If anything I read about him was right, I think he would have destroyed this field. Honestly, this was the weakest field I've ever seen. People I know who've been rooting for a TC winner their whole lives and never seen it we're actually rooting against BB because they didn't want to see it done this way...by default.
Maybe Dutrow should have done a better job preparing the horse for the race instead of making guarantees and talking trash all week.
Before the Kentucky Derby I remember them talking about how the field this year was weak. Then after the race it seemed like all that talk went out the window as the focus went on Big Brown as the next horse to attempt the triple crown.
Another thing, why isn't the media making a bigger story about Big Brown's owner Michael Iavarone being a complete fraud?
