i just watched an interview with him on espn.com video player. dude has lost a BUNCH of weight. looked very very in shape. he said hes in the 280lb range...
The key for the Rockets is that they need a PF with fast lateral movements to cover the shortcomings of Yao, they also need to guy to hit mid-range jumpers to stretch the defence. Now with Adelman, he will also need to make cuts and rotate on offense. So does he has the ability to do the above? Especially on defence end?
Offensively he can shoot but doesnt have NBA 3 range, not that that matter. He is way quicker and lighter than people think. I haven't seen great passing skills but others disagree. I don't foresee him having a great impact on defense, he never showed great IQ in help situations, doesn't block shots. He rebouded well at LSU but I don't see that translating into the NBA, he doesn't boxout or jump quick and high. His work ethic has been admirable. At his height I wouldnt take the risk. Not in the 1st round anyways.
Isn't this the same thing that happened to Carlos Boozer? He was chubby at Duke and then got himself in shape and he is doing ok now. DD
I like Boggan's attitude. He's really a 6'9" Center, but he's freakishly strong, and a tough player. Big Baby offers a lot more on offense, but I certainly think Boggan is an NBA quality player.
Don't forget that Chuck Hayes was completely overlooked in the draft because he was short. I wonder if the GMs will make the same mistake again?
No, because Boozer has never had the weight problem Big Fatty has. Davis has weighed up to 340 lbs and, IMO, his weight will always be a problem. For people like him, food is almost an addiction and he will fight that battle the rest of his life. I've said it many times before, when he reaches his mid-20s and the metabolism slows down a couple of ticks, it will be twice as hard to maintain his weight. Almost all Americans gain pounds from age 20-25 and for Davis it will be a battle to avoid making that an avalanche. He is a very high risk, mediocre at best reward player and not worthy of the first round. I think he peaked in 05/06 and it's downhill from there.
Count me with A3PO Big fat guys seldom keep their weight under control in the NBA. See Stanley Roberts, Thomas Hamilton, Tractor Traylor, Hot Plate Williams, Mel Turpin....etc. Pass.
