You are correct. TJ was the McDonald's star. When KU played UT, however, Miles looked every bit as good as Ford (outscored him and had nearly as many assists). With that said, Ford's a different type of player and maybe was asked to do more; whereas Miles was a "fit" for his offense. Plus, KU obviously had more weapons that UT, so both efforts (Miles v. Ford) could be jaded somewhat. Miles is a great assist guy and a pretty good scorer. Ford is a superb and creative assist guy (in the mode of a Jason Williams, Kevin Johnson, or Stockton, I really think), but has shown only moderate scoring ability. TJ's gonna have to take his 15' jump shot to the next level for Texas to truly contend this year. Forget about next year, I think Ford will be gone ($$$....). Miles was thrust into his role without hesitation by Roy Williams. That says something about his ability and character. Both are incredible and both are young. I just hope we getta see them play at least one more year after this. The cream of the crop in the B12, though, is Price from OU. Outside of Garner (AZ), Price is the nation's best PG (in terms of a wicked scorer and playmaker). OU will again challenge KU for the B12 title. KU will not go undefeated again in league play (no one ever will, I bet). UT is knocking hard on the door and Barnes' recruiting is no small reason. UT needs to grab one of the big Houston boys to get to that next level. Too much good local talent escapes Texas schools. Keith Langford is a Texas boy that will star at Kansas. There will be others.
Even though I'm an OU fan and hate Texas...I think TJ Ford is the best pure Point Guard in the conference....I'm not considering Hollis a PG though....
I thought it was the other way around. TJ outscoring Miles with TJ getting almost as many assists. I also thought Miles got a few easy assists considering KU had Gooden, Hinrich, etc that finnish more often than UT players.
Didn't see that game, but didn't Drew have a ridiculous amount of points on the inbounds play? For every good thing you say about Miles, you can say it two fold for TJ. The guy started from day one and didn't he lead the nation in assists? As a true freshman. He needs to work on his jumper, but he also is very unselfish. Miles may one day be the second best pg in the big 12, but for now, that title belongs to Ford or Price. This KU arrogance is amazing (in basketball). Are you guys good at anything else?
Geez, relax. Miles started every game as a true freshman, too; and led, arguably, the nation's 2nd best team to an undefeated B12 title. One's 6'2" and one is 5'10. Other than that, pretty similar. By the way, TU plays at Lawrence this year, underneath some banners that you probably won't recognize. Last year's game at Austin ranks as one of my 5 favorites of all time. Did Owens ever stick in the NBA?
I don't know if it's intentional or not (I don't think so), but calling Texas "TU" is offensive to UT alums/fans/students. It's an Aggieish thing to play. There's no doubt that KU has a more storied basketball program, but things may change soon. Also, Owens just got drafted. I don't know if he'll stick in the nba or not. Hope you aren't taking a shot at him now?
Not at all. I think Owens would have been outstanding, san injury. I like him a lot. Sorry about the TU thing..... I hear it both ways. Regarding "does Kansas have anything else except basketball?", yeah, a few other things. I grew up on a remote wheat farm in Western Kansas, and have a few stories to tell my grandkids.
