There will be press from all over the country there, so the tweet is kinda misleading. The conference is only going to have Bowlsby and Boren at it. I expect they will announce either ANOTHER delay or that they are not expanding. Knowing how dysfunctional this conference is, if they were expanding, it would have leaked by now.
A lot of conflicting information circulating this morning. Get the feeling they're just gonna table expansion for now and keep the circus rolling.
I was surprised that the comments Fox Sports President Eric Shanks said about the Big 12 didn’t get more play. The college conference has been kicking around the idea of adding two or four teams, which would trigger a contract clause that would force Fox and ESPN to pay a higher rights fee. Shanks essentially warned that any expansion could wind up being a fatal decision for the conference. Shanks: “We don’t think expansion in the Big 12 is a good idea for the conference. We think it will be dilutive to the product in the short term. In the long term, it’s probably harmful to the future of the conference. Who knows where expansion is going to go. Reading the smoke signals, [expansion talk has] cooled off. I don’t know why. We’re still in discussions with them. We still have a long way to go in the deal. We’ll work through it the best way that we can.” http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2016/10/17/Media/Sports-Media.aspx
I understand your reasoning but, IMO, it would be insane to make an announcement that isn't expansion. If there is no expansion, the little 12 should want everyone to forget this
I agree. If there is no expansion it is likely because of a new TV deal in the works or GOR they will announce. But this is the worst run conference in athletics history we're talking about here. They could screw up a layup. Should be fun.
It's a presser to announce a change in the playoff format for the 3 schools that compete in Equestrian.
Should be noted FOX has been anti-expansion because nobody wants what they are advocating (East coast teams)
They will announce a 2-4 team expansion. (1) It makes no sense for them to have a circus today if there is no show. (2) If Fox were comfortable, they wouldn't be making this public statement against adding teams. If they expand, the embarrassment is minimized.
I know it's just a typical troll post by bigtexxx, but we were told that the outcome of the OU game wouldn't have any effect on getting an invitation to join the Big XII. I can't see why this would change anything. I think other factors like market, fanbase, and facilities play a much larger role. Even then, Navy isn't some FCS team. They're easily top 3 in the AAC and were the 2nd best team in the conference last season IMO. I'm actually expecting them to win out in conference play this season and be the western division AAC champion.
True but losing took them out of the playoff picture and possibly a big bowl game, which in turn makes it less possible that they get picked up by either the Big 12 or another power conference at the end of the season. Winning puts pressure on these conferences to make a move, especially the Big 12, who more than likely will have no representative in the playoffs. Also, UH students/fans are less likely to show up to games if the team's losing.
I have said numerous time that the Big XII is the worst ran conference in the country and they have been for years. Whether they choose UH, BYU or no one at all; the fact remains that the conference has a long history of incompetence.
Because it would yet again expose the poor leadership of the conference and provide further fodder to the media. The Big XII goes as far as UT and OU pulls it.
This is common knowledge. Just as soon as UT finally gets rid of Dodds and the old-guard, Boren at OU steps up.
