The Big XII is a better fit for UH than most schools because of the high concentration of graduates in Houston from Big XII schools and a high interest in competing against other schools in Texas. Having said that UH would obviously prefer the power of the SEC or the stability of the Big X. You are correct that UH does not have the time to wait and see what the ACC, PAC or Big X offer in the next twelve months. The school needs iron clad promises right now, and to start competing in a major conference in the next 12 months to keep their head coach around. As far as the SEC picking another school in Texas (other than UT), I don't know that any of the other schools would really fulfill the SEC's desire to capture Texas talent better than the Houston market. Perhaps Baylor would appeal to them, as it would let them to suck more talent from that region of Texas. Honestly, UT would be the best fit, but I do not see UT willing to give up the power and influence it has in the Big XII to be an also ran in the Big XII. Also, the Big XII has hoped to coax Notre Dame to the conference eventually. The reality is not being aligned in a major conference has slowly started to hurt Notre Dame's program.
The Big1? will be around until the next bout of major realignment in 15 or whatever years. Just look at the TV deals. Then all bets are off.
In some form, sure, but I'm talking about it as a prestigious conference. All it would take is OU leaving and the Big 12 might as well be the AAC.
OU president David Boren: "I'm not saying there won't be expansion. But I'm not saying it can be automatically assumed that there will be expansion." http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0567819995057233648-4

I'm sorry, but this is getting a bit ridiculous. I now have a much better understanding of why A&M, Nebraska, etc left
So UH leaves Conference USA to join what becomes Conference USA v2.0. Now looking to join what will become Conference USA v3.0.
I disagree. The Big XII is definitely not the best conference to join, but UH needs to join a Power Five conference to position itself for the next round of major realignment (that includes more than just the Big XII) coming in a few years.
When will people learn to stop quoting Boren. He's just a former politician that just says stuff for attention. He's a joke. He's the Hoopsworld version of the Big 12. I'm guessing he was the one pushing for this ridiculous charade of a college football beauty pageant.
