Texas was not ready to play that was the worst offensive game plan against a strong front 4 I have ever seen..... Just horrible.... But, thank God for our kicker..... DD
That game gave me heart attacks, even moreso than during the last drive of last year's Fiesta Bowl. Our offensive line has been suspect the whole year, which is one of the key reasons our running game has been horrible. I love Newton but I'm surprised that we didn't give Cody Johnson more carries just to mix it up. But man oh man, Suh made our front 4 look like scrubs for the full 60. When we kicked the FG with 1sec left, I didn't even have the balls to watch it. All I heard was "GOT IT" and I started hollering  This game will do us good between now and the game in a month. People can speculate the margin of the UT/Bama all they want, but the game still has to be played on the field. I believe the role of being the underdogs will be beneficial to the psyches of our players. I got a feeling I'll have a good night of sleep after that. Hook 'em!
Greg Davis kept calling the same stupid plays. We need a good running back in the worst way. Benson, Jamal Charles.. we need one of those types of recruits. but damn it! we're in the national championship game!
I'm not even a Texas fan but you're effing spot on here. Alabama is not the 2005 Trojans...and even they got beat. It's freaking college football. Anyone can win on any given day. Tonight's game was exciting even without lots of scores. Let's hope the championship will be just as exciting. I don't think either team is assured anything.
They need to use Cody Johnson a lot more than they do. Especially on all those 2nd/3rd and short situations they failed to convert. Line up in the I and run your 240-250 pound back two times in a row instead of getting cute and running out of the spread.
It wouldn't surprise me if Texas ended up beating Alabama. That month off is a variable that is really underrated. I think that is another flaw in the present system. Anyway, that was heck of a finish today. You have to take your hats off to the Cornhuskers defense and coaching.
yup, i was wondering where he was? I hate those sideway runs, that only works if you have Jamaal Charles who is a world class sprinter.
The running game has been so inconsistent this season. With the way Suh and D-Line were controlling the line of scrimmage, we probably had a better chance converting passes on 2nd/3rd short than running it.
Problem with that is they were playing 7 on however many receivers Texas had in the pattern. Furthermore, Texas tried to run it with Newton out of the spread multiple times tonight in those situations. Against a very active defensive front having Newton get the ball from a standstill(and no lead blocker) is a bad idea. Plus, I'll take my chances with my 245-250 pound tailback getting a couple of yards in two plays. IMHO, a big part of the problem in the running game is Texas doesn't utilize Johnson enough. The guy is 245 to 250 pounds and isn't a stiff at running the ball like Henry Melton. Texas can be a spread offense with the ability to use power football when they need it. Use Newton out of the spread and Johnson in short yardage out of the I.
Why are people calling for TCU over Texas? Alabama got just as lucky against Tennessee and barely escaped against Auburn. If you're gonna use that against Texas, use it against Alabama. That being said, we need to get our act together if we're wanting to beat Alabama. . . Greg Davis has to go to work. Muschamps better hope the defense can step up and not pull out an A&M performance.
The ****ing idiots here in Alabama were rooting for Texas. Not because of respect. Not because of tradition. Not because of a bigger name and opponent. But because they felt "they won't respect or acknowledge our championship if we don't beat the big name team." These people are absolute ****ing idiots. I hate Florida fans, so overall I'm well above jovial that the Gators lost. I really don't want either Texas or Alabama to win. I wanted TCU in there to prove how good they were. I want to see Alabama fans beyond crushed. Then i want to see Saban leave to Notre Dame. (Funny thing is, I actually like Alabama as a team, just can't stand their fan base).
Suh should get the Heisman. No question. He is by far the most outstanding player in college football. I can't recall ever seeing a great player take a very good team to the woodshed like he did. I half-expected him to block the last field goal. The guy is a beast. The psychology of today's games was fascinating. Alabama working all year to get that one shot at Florida (and a huge thank you to Alabama for saving us from the month-long Tebow suck fest... bonus points for making him cry) and making the best of it. Texas working all year to make up for last year going into a game they were not expected to lose. It will be interesting to see what happens next as Alabama will get a bunch of praise and rightly be favored. If you listened to their players, the whole focus this year was on beating Florida. Do they have a let down after accomplishing the primary goal? Do they buy into their hype over the next month? How does Texas play when, for the first time this year, they are not expected to win? Texas looked and played tight the entire game. With any luck, they play free and loose as underdogs in the next game. Of all the possible outcomes, Alabama blowing up Florida and Texas squeaking by Nebraska is not close to being the worst one and may even turn out to be beneficial for Texas. (And I do think it will be a game.)
Texas has a "shot" but come on, to make it seem as if Alabama's biggest goal was to just get past Florida is a bit silly. Alabama has the best coach in college football. That's a BIG advantage. Alabama will be ready and if this Texas team shows up, they'll be lucky to score a point on Alabama's D. Alabama wins the game, though I would rather Texas win it (and even then it's taking the lesser of 2 evils...TCU would give Alabama a tougher matchup than Texas).
