Not really. Biedrins lives off the fast paced, jump shooting (more rebounds) GS offense. He doesn't defend well and doesn't have much offensive game. Again, I have only seen a little of him but to me he is Chris "Birdman" Andersen on the perfect team for his skills. Hayes is a lot more valuable than the casual fan gives him credit for. Then again, Adelman probably just likes playing him despite having Scola, Landry and Artest just to piss of some members of Clutchfans.
I likened him to Dwight Howard without the muscles and defense. Let's see. Bad Free throw shooting: check Athletic freak of nature: check (again minus the muscles on Bieds) Extraordinarily quick for big man: check Offense = dunk, dunk, dunk, dunk, running dunk, 3 foot hookshot, layup, dunk and layup: check, check....check...check Great Leaping ability: check Good shot blocker: half check (Biedrins can block shots, but not at the same production rate as Howard, though....I imagine he can get better at since he's only 22). Good rebounder: check If something happens to Dwight Howard or Amare, this year, this kid will make all-NBA (not because he deserves it), but beause he's somewhat of highlight reel player with decent numbers....voters usually like that.
I don't care how he gets it, as long as he keeps doin it. I drafted him kinda early in my leagues fantasy draft, and people laughed.
I'm glad people are at least admitting they have not watched him. Couldn't crack the rotation on half the teams... could start on 12 teams max. Yeah, right. Why make such statements if you have little to no idea? Also, about the jumpshot, he had a jumpshot before he was drafted. It wasn't great but he could hit it. I think he doesn't use it because the coaches would rather see someone else take the shot and him crashing the boards. However, I don't see why he couldn't start to add back some range to his offense later on. All in all, I'm very happy that he has started this season so well and I hope he keeps it up.
I'm just going by what I have seen. I know my sample size isn't a huge one but I have seen him enough to have an idea of what he can and cannot do. Can you let me know exactly how many games I have to watch before I am allowed to form an opinion about a player/team?
I like him a lot...he is very quick for a big guy, good leaper, and is smart smart smart in moving without the ball. He is a better version of Chuck Hayes.....if Hayes could finish above the rim he would have similar stats. DD
he gets trash points around the bucket, either or boards or a dish. He is a ball hawk around the basket
Maybe you're right - he might not get taught those things at the Warriors. But there's good evidence that suggests big men add to their game offensively over time
That is true. He just seems like the type of player that has limited room for growth. Don't get me wrong, I think Biedrins is a legit NBA player. If nothing else, he is a solid backup C. I'd be happy to have him backing up Yao.
I find it hard to believe that you have come to the conclusion that he could be a bench warmer on some teams. It's true that Nellie ball is perfect for him but come on. You must be going mainly by his performances against Yao against whom he always struggles.
WOW how come no one ever brings this guy up? Averaging 17.5 ppg and 14.5 rpg and 1 block! Those are Dwight Howard numbers and just yesterday he pulled down 22 boards. WAY better talent than Andrew Bynum and could be on his way to being a top center in the near future.
I watch him a lot...I have league pass. I had him last year in Fantasy. He's improved this year. Baron Davis was great at finding him and I thought with Davis' departure that Beidrins production would drop off...but I was wrong. The guy is legit. Pros: -very quick for a center -great hands -decent touch around the basket (actually has post up moves) -monster on the boards -good shot blocking explosiveness -great energy and activeness around the basket Cons: -free throw shooting -very foul prone -cannot guard wing players yet switches on them a lot -below average jumper He has very good basketball instincts but still makes mistakes of a young player. With the proper training, this guy has perennial all-star in his future.
Desi I mentioned in a previous post....he's exactly like Dwight Howard minus the muscles and defense. You have perfect match...but actually FT shooting is getting better, since they hired Moncrief as shooting coach.
Also, I imagine he would be all over ESPN, if he played for the Lakers, Celtics, or Knicks. I don't think his defense or parts of his offense is as good Bynum, but he might turnout to be a more effective player.
Man... He really did improve his offensive game. Its not just luck IMO. If it wasn't for his Texas State tan and haircut I might actually like the guy.
His size, hands, quickness, and explosiveness is such a gift. It's an underrated talent and it's so unfair to have that combination. You see so many players do the right thing and know exactly where to be on offense and get the quick pass inside. Many of them don't have the hands to catch tough passes. Others get the ball but don't have the explosiveness to finish before the Defense recovers. Beidrins is so lucky/good here. While it's great for him that he's developing post moves, it's just such an advantage to be quick, long, explosive, and have good hands. It's takes fractions of second to make a proper pivot or cut to get a slither of an opening, and with good passers, you can be wide open to receive a pass near the bucket with a lagging defense. Sometimes the opening or advantage of space is not that big, especially if the defense is smart and fast. But Beidrins' combo of skills/talent allows him to put the ball up quickly or flush it quickly before the defense is able to recover. It's a timing feel that's innate, plus physical talent. He is like a taller, longer, Carl Landry in that respect. He doesn't have Landry's jump shot, but man, imagine if Landry was a 7 footer. Golden State has a real find there.
I am a GS Warriors fan and have watched Biedrins grow over the years. He's long and lanky, quick and explosive. His offensive game has developed nicely and I think there is still more room for growth there. He gets most of his points on putbacks and PnRs, but this year he's shown some post moves. His rebounding is top notch, because he has good instincts to match his length and quick jumping ability. His help defense has also improved and he's not getting into as much foul trouble as in the past. His only major problem is that he can't handle bulky players, which is why you see Marc Gasol and Nene busting out on him.
very good observation wangzhizhi. I forgot about the bulky thing. Yeah...maybe it's a lack of strength or just that his advantage of quickness creates a disadvantage in bulk...but yeah, the big guys can back him in and do butt to the basket post moves on him fairly easily.
Eh, the guy plays for Golden State. Taking nothing away from Andris but all that team does is shoot jumper after jumper. Plus they are a fast breaking team = more possessions. There are plenty of rebounds to go around.
