No actually it will not. It will lower stock values, as your expected future cash flows derived from equity ownership are lower. It will also delay selling positions that are profitable. I repeat, history shows that a higher capital gains tax lowers tax receipts.
Who says they are? Who is defining fair share? I pay what the tax code requires. Isn't that fair? It may be abominable but it is fair... because everyone has the same code.
If liberals want to pay more in taxes, BE MY GUEST. Please do so, liberals. Show off your patriotism by volunteering to pay more! If you are unwilling to do that, then cierra la boca and quit trying to make other people part with their nest egg.
That's not the point, unlike much of America, Biden gives to charity at a much lower percentage. For someone with income well into 6 figures, he gives less than 1000? Hell, this year I gave more to charities than Biden gave in the last 10 years. Tax really is a form of charity (except government decides how to distribute it), I'd much rather keep the tax lower and decide whom I want to donate to myself.
i guess Biden's parsimony is excused by our patriotism. <object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tpb4ldtsFz4&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tpb4ldtsFz4&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="349"></embed></object>
Many of us are not afraid to shoulder a slight increase in taxes in order to keep the country running smoothly. What happened to 'Country First' ?
jeremiah wright was a marine who chose to extend his tour. if you guys want to criticize obama for being associated with ayers for something he did when obama was a kid, then extend the same courtesy to wright, otherwise stfu on the subject not because it irritates me, but because it doesn't matter anymore. edit: damn you cheetah
Haven't charitable donations been proven to be a more efficient way to have an impact. The "problem" with it is that you get to have more of a say where the help is rendered...
Which charities pay down the national debt? Which charities rebuild crumbling infrastructure? Which charity provides healthcare for the millions and millions who don't have it?
Are you joking? If not, I would seriously be interested in any "proof" to this claim. I'll even extend the courtesy of accepting anecdotal evidence.
They don't have to; that's not their job... although some do provide healthcare services. If I get fed every day from church soup kitchens then those are meals that some government agency didn't have to provide for me.
What surprises me about Biden is that after 35 years in the senate, he apparently only has about $350K saved up???? link I know he's not making Clinton/Obama/McCain/Bush money -- but he's still making pretty decent coin -- at least enough that I would have thought he'd saved up more given his age.
Lovely. As you should know, you have three broad categories of budget obligations: interest, non-discretionary, and discretionary. For FY08, the interest amounts to 9% of the budget and non-discretionary totals about 53%. (Non-discretionary includes Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.) That leaves 38% of the budget (represented in the pie chart below) for you to focus on. Now, please tell us where you would decrease spending... and it should be enough to make a significant impact.
Not at all. I googled for awhile and most things I find seem to be oriented to European issues. I did read some references to Larry Elder's book "10 Things You Can't Say in America." Apparently he cites a study in one of his chapters which indicates that only 30 cents of every dollar taken in by a governmental agency makes its way to the "end-user" while in the private sector the numbers are reversed: 70 cents of every dollar get to the "end-user." In other words, the governmental bureaucracy towers over anyone else's bureaucracy... I really thought this was pretty common knowledge. I'm surprised you got your back up about it...
