I think these deaths are terrible but is this threat really prevalent? It seems to be less than 10 deaths in 2 years? The crazy people do this every week. In 2020, the FBI and DHS assessed RMVEs, primarily those advocating the superiority of the white race, likely would continue to be the most lethal category of the DT threat to the Homeland. In 2020, four DT-related attacks resulted in four deaths. Three of the attacks were committed by DVEs with anti-government or anti-authority violent extremist ideologies, specifically militia violent extremism and anarchist violent extremism. One lethal attack was committed by an RMVE who allegedly used his interpretations of religious teachings to justify a murder. In 2020, for the first time since 2011, no lethal attacks were committed by RMVEs who espouse a belief in the superiority of the white race. In 2021, the FBI and DHS assessed RMVEs advocating the superiority of the white race and anti-authority or anti-government violent extremists, specifically militia violent extremists, presented the most lethal threat categories. The FBI and DHS assessed RMVEs were most likely to conduct mass-casualty attacks against civilians, and militia violent extremists would typically target law enforcement and government personnel and facilities. In 2021, at least four DT-related attacks resulted in 13 deaths. DVEs with mixed or personalized ideologies committed two of the four attacks. The other two lethal attacks were committed by RMVEs – one who advocated the superiority of the white race and one who allegedly used his interpretations of religious teachings to justify the murder of a police officer.
The public is especially concerned with terrorism because of the potential for mass casualty events, such as the Oklahoma City bombing. Recent domestic terrorist events have been more focused on mass shootings than bombings, which we can credit to Congress's actions in tightening regulations on the manufacture, sale, and transport of explosive materials after the Oklahoma City bombing. Unfortunately, we continue to see regular acts of violence, through mass shootings, targeting certain groups of people with ease of access to guns. However, a mass casualty event is always very concerning. In addition, there is now the potential for a mass interruption event, such as bombing power plants and other critical infrastructure, which, while not as devastating, can hugely impact people and the economy. Perhaps one way to look at this is that while we unfortunately have regular mass shootings, they are more like wave events, whereas terrorism has the potential to be a huge, devastating tsunami. We need to tackle both issues, but special attention (from FBI/DHS/Countering Terrorism focus/etcs) is required to prevent the devastating tsunami.
I get it. The threat is there. Hopefully it remains just a threat and doesn't become a major problem.
Maybe you forgot what happened one year from today? How a white supremacist killed multiple people based upon the great replacement theory? 100% hate filled attack. Maybe you forgot the racist latino who went on a shooting spree the other week who was filled with racist rants and hate Language. It's adorable seeing white folks pretend that white supremacy isn't a huge issue in this nation. You can keep living in your fairytale bubble it doesn't change reality
Even if you count the racist latino, most people are more likely to be killed by a street gang or a mentally ill person than a white supremacist.
We can do more than just hope to mitigate the threat posed by white supremacists. Acknowledging the threat, detecting it, and applying resources to reduce it are some of the measures we should be taking. While white supremacists represent a very small group in the US, their influence has been growing due to a changing environment where they are becoming more acceptable to political leaders and have access to better tools for recruitment. It is important to work towards countering this threat, starting with recognizing it and implementing education and programs to help those who might be vulnerable to radicalization. The WH released a strategy for this: National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism | The White House P.S. The US gov had funding to counter domestic terrorism since the Obama admin, under a program called CVE (Countering Violent Extremism). Part of the program provided funding to groups like "Life After Hate," which helps individuals leave neo-Nazi and other white supremacist groups. Other groups worked to create media campaigns with the goal of preventing individuals from embracing white supremacy and other violent ideologies. These programs were cancelled by the Trump admin. This is one of many reasons why extremists group embrace Trump and believe he provides political support for them.
This is quite a whataboutism argument. I’ll state what I said in the mass shooting thread. Howabout let’s have policies that make it harder for gang members, mentally ill, and white supremacist from getting weapons that can kill a lot of people quicklyZ
Make America great again by finally allowing us to file our damn tax for free! Finally turbo tax is such a scam. This will help so many low income folks. The funny thing is this would help MAGA folks the most
Not all people wanting to secure our boarder is a white supremacists. But all white supremacists believe in securing our boarder. Context. It matters.
