Biden's experience should've told him the danger of buying into the most rosy projections and either willfully blinding himself to information that doesn't support what you are saying or not being honest with the American people. He's so far done a good job being straightforward with COVID-19 and the challenges that it still faces. He's spoken well about the dangers of hurricane Ida. Yet when it came to the withdrawal from Afghanistan he sounded like Nixon talking about "Peace with honor" in Vietnam. This is something he definitely should be called out for. Even with all that I don't agree this means he should resign, or this makes him the worst President eva!, or any other such overheated rhetoric. It doesn't mean he's sleepy or mentally unfit but just means he's more similar to most US Presidents and isn't perfect.
https://www.businessinsider.com/chi...research-2021-8?amp&__twitter_impression=true 3 million American kids out of child poverty in a month already bcz of bidens monthly payments. . Real American children here at home. I thought conservatives were pro life and pro kids? Helping millions of real American kids out of poverty seems like a pretty big deal to me? Could you imagine if Trump saved 3 million kids out of poverty? He would be worshipped as a God by the "pro lifers". Democrats need help with messaging
Nobody in the military had any intel it would collapse before mid September at the earliest. The chief joints said this the other day This whole narrative that the withdrawal is a disaster is funny. We've evacuated. 005% of the entire Afghanistan population. Think about if we evacuated the entire population of San Diego and San Antonio in 2 weeks using one runway with no roads to the airport.
... and to the rest of the world, including the Taliban. When Afghan government later collapsed, we then can blame Joe for encouraging the Taliban. It really was a no win situation.
or the Afghan gov is under pressure to not let that happen. Hey, maybe the Afghan gov didn't even know that's a possibility to guard against. Maybe the Taliban was even surprised at how easy it was because no one put that on the radar as a possibility. Maybe the people in the region realize they should get the hell out of there sooner and not wait till the very last min. Even if Biden did an A+ job, Republicans will find something to attack him on. In addition to full honesty as a right thing, I believe if he had stated that possibility and it still happens, people wouldn't be so surprised and shocked, reducing the impact of the pure politically motivated attacks on him.
I can't judge much without a good accounting of what actually happen. I can only guess. Maybe he was 90% focus on Covid and outsourced almost everything Afghan to the generals / DoD. As a side note, we need gov to be able to handle multiple stream of challenges at the same time, such as appointed Czar in particular areas (Obama had that right).
I'm not complaining. Happy about the poverty relief. But it's a band-aid at the moment. It's not a self-sustaining systemic mechanism that results in less poverty every year into the future. It's a subsidy for right now and that can be taken away as easily as it came. We need more permanent solutions. Yeah, a major failing that they didn't know a collapse was a possibility.
doesn't look like CNN is ready just yet to cut Biden some slack America's Afghan war is over but the battle for Biden's legacy is only just beginning https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/31/politics/americas-afghan-war-is-over-joe-biden-legacy/index.html
I'm interested in how their ratings will fare. Fox's rating took a dump when they didn't follow the game plan. Are CNN folk political loyalists or just watch whatever drama they're fed.
Someone made a comment in here or the other thread about the MSM blowing up over the Big L despite this being a 20 year war they helped propped up. If this is indeed "another Vietnam", the media sure as hell went 180 on their duties.
I wasn't born at that time and am not able to make or debate apt comparisons. I only know the coverage is drastically different due to the media tooting their own "journalistic independence" horn about it and Cons grumbling to this day that they didn't need to lose Vietnam "if only..."
I think one sign that the bad press and criticism is getting to him, is the general tone of these remarks. very irritated, very defiant, very defensive
I got kind of a Brett Kavanaugh vibe from that speech, kept waiting for him to ask if anyone liked beer
Not too surprising that he doesn't take criticism all that well. He had some rather irritable outbursts against the media on the campaign trail last year too, didn't he?
