This is where we disagree, I don't believe "much of the mess" could have been avoided. There are things they could have done better early on, but this was going to be a massive mess regardless and it is why prior administrations did not leave Afghanistan. These are always terrible.... Rwanda and many other examples. This one thus far overall hasn't been any worse than the others. When you occupy a country and then leave, this is what happens. We will do this again........ we said we wouldn't do it again numerous times in the past and we always have. We did it in Central and South America in the the 40's-80's..... we did it in Iran..... we did it in Iraq..... we have now done it in Afghanistan..... we saw it happen in Rwanda and other places. As long as the USA is a world power... this will happen. It will stop for awhile (like we stopped after WWI) and it will happen again. I heard for years that the Baby Boomer generation would not have another Vietnam because they were drafted and protested it and lived through it ...... and yet that same generation got us into a multifront war, including a war in Afghanistan that lasted literally two decades.
Call me a cynic, I am a little older than you and not as optimistic (although I appreciate your optimism).... but my money is on the defense contractors and large business in the USA... it is just too entrenched. I am a little more optimistic that young people are seeing through all the propaganda of the military and realizing that in most cases you are just an under paid grunt that works for the wealthy stockholders and CEO's of these fortune 500 companies...... the military used to get the upper class white kids, then they got the social mobile minorities.... and then moved on to anyone that didn't know what they wanted to do.... and now it is getting really hard for them to get the quality of recruit they want...... well maybe if they didn't treat their veterans like **** and didn't loan them out to the interest of the super rich it would be an easier sale.
You Biden supporters gotta help me out on this one. What the hell is he talking about? Feel bad for the interpreter, I would have screwed up like a hundred times.

Uh oh...leak call. Biden lies soldiers died. He’s lying to everyone, Americans, Afghans, service dogs. Resign already and take your stooges in your administration with you.
This is dope @Os Trigonum @MojoMan @dachuda86 @LosPollosHermanos took some creativity to make a rap song out of this
It’s the height of irony that a Trump supporter would say that Biden needs to resign because he lied (iffy). You idiots do realize that we all remember you worship at the alter of Donald J Trump right?? Biden could lie 100 times in the next two years and it would be 5,900 times less than Donald Trump.
https://jonathanturley.org/2022/08/...billion-in-military-equipment-to-the-taliban/ Inspector General: The U.S. Government Left More Than $7 Billion in Military Equipment to the Taliban by jonathanturley August 19, 2022 Defense Department Inspector General has released its long-awaited report on what the Biden Administration left behind in Afghanistan. It is an unbelievable list of equipment left to one of the most violent groups in the world with a history of supporting terrorist organizations. I opposed the long war in Afghanistan, so I was not among those critical of Trump or Biden in pushing to leave the conflict. However, no one has ever explained why the Biden Administration left this equipment in Afghanistan as opposed to removing it or destroying it. While the collapse of the Afghan government was rapid in the final days, the government had many months to prepare for the scheduled withdrawal. Yet, it took no steps to remove or destroy this equipment. Instead, it elected to leave this arsenal intact to the Taliban. The ground vehicle inventory alone was worth about $4.12 billion. In addition, the U.S. military lost $923.3 million worth of military aircraft and $294.6 million in aircraft munitions. The Taliban was instantly made one of the best equipped militaries in the world due to this windfall gift by the Biden Administration. While the report says that “some” of the aircraft were “demilitarized and rendered inoperable during the evacuation,” most of this equipment was left read to use, including 316,260 small arms, including sniper rifles, machine guns and grenade launchers that were worth $511.8 million. I do not understand how this clear and unimaginable blunder has gone unaddressed. No one was fired. There is not even any evidence of discipline of any kind. The Biden Administration decided to give the Taliban billions in weapons rather than destroy them. Yet, there seems little more than a shrug and a yawn from Congress and the press.
Yo does this guy not realize the literal concept of the ANA(Afghan National Army)? All the equipment ANA uses is our equipment. So is Turkey suggesting that we should have disarmed the ANA before leaving? I mean... Sure why not? They were pretty useless anyways but I mean just toss away any appearance that maybe before the withdrawal, they stood any chance? Biden I guess should have been like "lol guys, we know you are all useless in reality so before we head out we are just going to strip you guys of all your equipment".
It was already well known that the US left tons of weapons and equipment behind. I still believe the withdrawal from Afghanistan was needed but it was handled terribly. It is far and away the biggest debacle of the Biden Presidency and one of the biggest failures of intel and military planning since Vietnam.
