Quick question for our L.A. - based Clutch Fans.... I'll be in Los Angeles this weekend (Saturday - Tuesday). I'll be staying in the Beverly Hills area, not much time to venture elsewhere in the city. Can anyone recommend a few good restaurants? I'm looking for a few quick lunch places (an hour-ish) and quick-to-long dinner places (1-2 hours). No fast food. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!
All right, smarty-pants... what type of food do you prefer? So far, the best I've seen is Porterhouse Bistro. http://www.porterhousebistro.com/
Things that are cooked. No sushi. I'm not a big fish-fan, but shrimp/crab/lobster are major favorites. Beef, chicken & veggies are good. Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Indian, French, whatever...I'm open for anything.
Check out that bistro website. They have a Prix-Fixe menu of four courses and two cocktails for $34.50. Damn cheap for Beverly Hills. Entrees are: 12 oz Rib Eye Steak-Included: One side dish (Cajun spices optional on the Rib Eye Steak, please let your server know) Grilled Swordfish Entre Rack of Lamb Entre Pan Seared Whitefish Entre Grilled Chicken Entre Southern Fried Chicken Entre Lobster & Vegetable Pastina Entre Vegetarian Plate of the Day I'd hit it.
Or try this, if you prefer italian: http://www.ladolcevitabeverlyhills.com/ Apparently, a 40 yr. old institution. Or, for Indian: http://gateofindiala.com/
Ted has owned and run "ted's of beverly hills steakhouse" ("come and put our meat in your mouth"), at the corner of 5th and main in beverly hills, for the last 30 years, after inheriting it from his father, dick bell. He is known for his many innovations including the baked potato wrapped in tin foil, the related baked potato christmas tree, the "Ted" (captain morgan's and coke), the steak sandwich and the gorgonzola and garlic salad. He also introduced the serrated knife to the steak world, was the first to put lemon juice on shrimp cocktail and was the first to use two salad forks in the place settings. When you go there, don't piss Ted off or he'll slap your wife on the ass. Go to Ted's. He want's to put his meat in your mouth.
FYI...I did stop by In N Out again while I was in LA for the Rose Bowl last week. It was a little better since I was drunk, but still no Whataburger.

DAMN! Beat me to it! Definitely do Nate -n- Al's. Best deli in Beverly Hills, one of the top 3 in all of Los Angeles.
Here are my recommendations: Sushi: Matsuhisa. Italian Food / Wine: Valentino (Santa Monica) Steak: Lawry's Prime Rib French (affordable): Cafe Bizou (Sherman Oaks, Pasadena) - Often voted as people's favorite restaurant in various reader polls. Thai Food: Sanamluang Cafe (Hollywood) - It is located in a minimall and looks a bit run down. But most of my Thai friends swears it is their favorite Thai restaurant.
My friend has a taco stand in the farmer's market. It's called Loteria Grill. That's a little ways away between there and hollywood. Here's the citysearch on it : http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/11398449 google beverly hills + lunch gave me this http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/bestof/LA_bestpowerlunch.html here's a top ten from that site http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/bestof/LA_top10foodrating.html
La Dolce Vita is great. It is ashamed that you don't have time to move just a bit out of Beverly hills because there is the best Italian food I have ever had in my life in Glendale near Pasadena. Everything from the appetizer, to the entree to the dessert is just excellent. Nothing is low quality. The prices are pretty reasonable, and the atmosphere is kind of a catch all. You would fit in wearing business casual, or or shorts and anything a notch above a t-shirt. If you get any time check it out. It is called Far Niente. Also a bit of ways from Beverly Hills in Malibu there are the famous places but one that I like as much if not more is Paradise Cove Malibu Beach Cafe.
