Lin is a wildcard. If he can develop a consistent jumper ala tony parker, we all know how dangerous he can be. But its that inconsistency and intermittent lack of aggression that raises question marks. We all love how Beverley plays, his grit and determination is inspiring to watch, but you cant argue that if Lin gets it together, (give him more than a seasons worth of nba ball guys, be patient sheesh) then he is VERY dangerous. There is nothing like playing nba basketball, and Lin is still very new to it.
People see what they want to see. Beverley had a great game tonight, sure. He's had some nice performances through the season too. But guess what, he's had some pretty bad ones as well. He went through a long scoreless stretch and has been foul prone at times. You say you can't ignore Bev's game tonight, but apparently it's OK to ignore all of Linsanity, Lin's 29/7 performance vs OKC, 28/9 vs Golden State, 23/8 vs Denver, 38/7 vs. the Spurs, etc. and only focus on his struggles. It's a latent bias. Ultimately it's the whole "what have you done for me lately" mindset. Bev has hustle and is pesky on defense, but he doesn't have Lin's court
Beverley's impact on the game is way beyond scoring, so a scoreless streak really doesn't mean much for him.
Beverly's a great energy guy, he's a long term backup. But nah, Lin has some traits you can't teach, that if he can improve his off the ball play and shooting he can certainly solidify himself in the top 10 of pgs.
Why can't we have both? Beverley isn't good enough that we can ship Lin out for him to be the starter. Likewise, Lin isn't good enough that Morey wouldn't include him in a trade for an upgrade.
LOL neither will the the #1 or #2 reason you win a title so who cares. Look at the last 7-8 championship team point guards. Only 1 guy can even be considered close to elite.
I'd say 2, but Dallas was really the only team that didn't have the offense being managed by a non elite player (granted they weren't point guards).
Not going to argue with who's better Lin or Beverly, but yeah Beverly did really well tonight. I get what you're saying, but Beverly came out big during a playoff game. I am not saying that Lin isn't capable of that. I hope to see him back, and I hope he does well. You have to realize that playoff games are much more intense than regular games. The playoff is when it really counts. We've yet to see Lin have a big game. This is also his first time, so it's understandable. It's too bad that he was injured because he looked promising in the 2nd game. If a player does nothing good during the playoffs he's useless comes playoff time obviously. Even though I get what you're trying to say, I don't think you should compare what Lin has done during the regular season with what Beverly did in game 2. Not here to say Beverly is better than Lin, but hey we can agree that Beverly has outplayed Lin so far in the playoff right? With that said I hope to see Lin back and have a good game.
I love Beverly, but I too see him as a backup. A great backup - but a backup all the same. If he plays well the rest of the series the Rockets will have in him a huge trade piece. So that's something else to be excited about.
ehmm, you already have your answer, why ask people, even every one said lin, you still wanna show that bev is better then lin, so i already know how this thread end
Knee-jerk. Why don't we see the playoff through, first.. this is as bad as a LOF thread after Lin's few good games.
I don't see why we can't keep both. They clearly play well with each other. Start Lin with Bev being our 6th man? I hate having to have the theoretical situation where we must pick one. Because it Lin will win out. Last time we went deep, we had a hell of a PG duo.
Lin plays with his intelligence which will be utilized most when he is the commanding PG. Like when you putting a General to soldier's position, you are not going to have the max production. Same as Steve Nash, he is downgraded when playing with kobe. As a soldier, Beverley maybe better, as a leader and commander, Lin maybe better. We have seen many times which Lin makes groups of bench player look good.
Of late, it seems like a team needs at least an allstar level/elite front court player with a mix of above average players (if not elite). The point guard position seems marginal when compared to the last few years of teams making the finals, but I'm guessing it's more correlation than anything else. Nonetheless, it's still an interesting thing to look at moving forward.
