I voted Arenas because A. His injury has had much longer to heal and B. His team looks absolutely lost without him, even with two other All-Stars I'd love to see on the Rockets.
I'm going to have to say Arenas. I just think that he's had more time to heal his injury and he's set to have a great year with the Wizards. McGrady may or may not have recovered physically, but I still doubt his mentality. We'll just have to see whether we get the player who dunked over Thomas or if we get the player who got blocked by the rim.
Arenas. Easily. The Wizards are his team, and Saunders will work wonders for him. Billups, Terrell Brandon ... he's done great work with PGs in the past. And the Wiz will also end up with more wins than Houston. They're huge sleeper in the East. Hiring Saunders was a very good move.
I'm curious which dimension you're talking about when you call Arenas' offensive game one dimensional.
He's game is all about offense. he dosent have mcgrady's passing, court vision, rebounding and defensive ability of mcgrady when mcgrady is motivated. healthy Tmac>>Arenas
1. Yes he does. I hate to bring up career stats but Tracy has averaged... 22 points-5 assists-6 rebounds Gilbert has averaged... 23 points-6 assists- 4 rebounds 2/3. They have similar passing and court vision, and are very similar rebounders. Remember, McGrady is 6-8, and Gilbert is 6-3. 2 freaking rebounds is what 5 inches gets you I guess. 4. When Mcgrady is motivated? What the hell does that mean? How sorry a state does an athlete have to be in if your arguments come down to, IF he is motivated... Sad, sad, sad..
Eh, Arenas is a PG while mcgrady is a SG/SF and all the while arenas averages 1 more assist. slot mcgrady at the PG and he'll get you more then 6 a game.
Yup, Is it the 3-pointers? Attacking the basket? Getting to the FT line at will? Setting up of teammates? Making Larry Hughes look like Black Jesus? Doing it all in a very efficient manner?
McGrady plays PG on offense, and that is part of the problem. He has controlled the ball more than anyone on his teams for the better part of a decade... I can't remember the last time he ran the floor like a SF or came off a screen like a wingman. He ALWAYS has the ball in his hands, and he NEEDS it to be effective.
Why? I want McGrady to play great. That would be awesome. Let us not go over board on the Tracy love fest though. He and Gilbert have ENOURMOUS faults of their own, and I do not think you can just throw out "If McGrady was motivated". Because if he was, he might be one the greatest, but he has NOT lived up to that potential. So he is what he is, which is good, but flawed...

If this was a Yao vs Dwight poll, Yao would have over 200 votes UNABLE to play this year. This board can be so biased and the hate can show as well..
http://www.basketball-reference.com...m=1&p1=mcgratr01&y1=2009&p2=arenagi01&y2=2009 Extra height or not, 2 rebounds is an advantage. And extra height gets McGrady almost a full block a game compared to Arenas .3 blocks. McGrady's blocks+steals average together is more than Arenas. Per 36 minutes McGrady averages more points, 22.7 to 21.9. Surprisingly with an BETTER FG% than Arenas, Arenas does have the better 3pt%. Arenas definitely holds his own, not slighting him and over-boosting McGrady. There's just some numbers that go his way depending how you choose to view the stats. McGrady's free throws are a definite disappointment
