I think this is a key stat, which leads me to believe that Brooks could keep up his high scoring production even with more talent around him as he knows how to get open and hit the jumper / layup and doesnt always need the ball in his hands like Nash (that 9 % for Nash suggests that he's almost always creating for himself) to be effective.....
Interesting. So you believe having a higher %Ast (along with a similar scoring rate) is indicative of greater (or, perhaps, more versatile) scoring ability.
For an apples to apples comparison, let's take their 3rd year stats and have a look: Nash's career stats page In Nash's 3rd year (First as a starter): 7.9ppg .363 FG% .374 3p% 5.5 apg 2.08 tpg 2.9 rpg 40 games started Aaron Brooks stats page In Brook's 3rd year (First as a starter): 18.9ppg .434 FG% .405 3pt % 4.9 apg 2.87 tpg 2.4 rpg 39 games started Well what do you know? Brooks is actually progressing FASTER than Nash....when you compare equal games and equal times in their careers. I hope all the Brooks doubters get to see this post and wake the heck up ! DD™
There are a number of people who consider Carmelo Anthony to be a greater scorer than LeBron James, even though James is more efficient and creates more for himself (and teammates). That seems to parallel this issue.
durvasa, Did you create this thread in response to somebody saying Brooks is a better scorer than Nash? Otherwise, the arguments and statistics you use in your OP undeniably prove that Nash is the better scorer. There isn't much to debate.
Not everyone has the same perspective on what it means to be a superior scorer, which I'm seeing by some of the responses in this thread (and the poll results). I'm just interested in the various opinions that are out there. I don't have any other agenda.
Did you see it in Nash in year 3? How the HADES can anyone say what he is or isn't going to be? I see him as being a helluva pg right now, and will continue to get better, and play at at least all star level. But getting to all time great level? I don't know....do you? DD
Well I just think he can score w/o having the ball in his hands most of the time, kind of letting the game come to him and when the opportunity comes, in the form of an open shot, to take advantage. The high assisted to ratio suggests he could be a key weapon when we get players who demand the ball more (since he'll maximize his opportunities well).
Wow, dude, what happened? No, Brooks obviously will never be close to an MVP candidate. Nash is twice the player Brooks will ever be.
One of the things Brooks does very well is shoot off screens, and his backdoor cuts has also been a very effective play for us. He's able to use his speed and slight build to his advantage in getting free of defenders without the ball. You're right, those are two things you don't see Nash do.
This is a Rockets-centric forum. There are going to be homers that don't want to use facts. That probably happens to some degree on message boards for every team. Brooks isn't the only player that has been or will be overrated by Rockets fans.
Wow, people are actually voting for Brooks. Nash can easily average 22-26 PPG of he wanted to. A top 3 shooter in thr leauge, Nasty Clutch and one of the best FT% of all time. THis is not even close
I asked, because DD said that Brooks is progressing faster than Nash at a similar age. I thought he was implying that Brooks has a chance to become better than what Nash has been in his best years.
the key is "scorer"....shooter, its nash of course. Passer? Also nash. Player? Nash...but scorer? I have to give the nod to brooks. to me a scorer is a guy who's going to put it in the hole when he's got his man to beat and that's it. I have to ignore most of those numbers you threw out because they're mostly related to their roles on their respective teams and the style those teams play. When it comes to nash or brooks alone, going up against any given player, brooks is a better scorer.
Obviously? Really? Are you the wizard? You know WHAT he will become or won't become? See, he just might become BETTER than Nash, he might peak close to where he is now. But to say he will NEVER be something is downright silly. He DOES have a chance to be better, but that doesn't mean he will be....but for crying out loud.....19ppg as a first time starter......is not good, it is FRICKEN AMAZING !!! WAKE UP PEOPLE !!!!! You guys are missing something special. DD
