I was watching Sportcenter or some other espn show a couple nights ago, and they had a feature where they put a mic on Allen Iverson and Steve Francis during a Houston/Philly game. Now when they had the camera on Steve he was sitting on the sideline counting down with the shotclock (4... 3... 2...) The camera then switches to the court where Yao had the ball, he then makes a turnaround jumper over a defender don't know who. Then the camera switches back to Steve and you hear him say 'Dynasty!'... Well if Steve calls him that then I guess that's what I'm going to call him... also when Yao gets stronger and starts to really throw it down at people I'm gonna change it to DA NASTY!... Ming Dynasty or Mind DA NASTY! I dunno either one works for me...
grumble grumble...maybe if i do this enough, it'll catch on....grumble... THE EMPEROR!!!!! ...officially holding breath..............
As said before, I like the Chairman because it rolls off the tougne with ease and is a reference to a huge figure in Chinese history (with both positive and negative connotations). However, by calling him the Chairman it also gives him status as a great ambassador between nations, someone greater than merely a basketball star, which I do believe Yao represents. However, the nickname of Ming the Merciless is great as well. That old stereotype was the bane of many Chinese living in the united States and was a huge stereotype of Chinese as kneiving, mysterious, and untrustworthy. It is great to see a Chinese person RECLAIMING that title and using it promote international understanding. of course, we have to wait a few years until he lives up to that name, but I still endorse it anyways
new nickname for yao THE GENERAL. david robinson's the admiral. so a good name for yao would be the general. it sounds way better than chairman. ^_^
Yao "The Machine" Ming. The way he calmly, smoothly and repeatedly attacks. The Ming(Mean) Machine sounds nice too.
Personally, I don't like "Chairman" "Dynasty" is ok. I actually don't even think he requires a nickname. I kinda like "Yao Ming" as is. Maybe in 10 years Oxford dictionary will make it a new word.
Ming,"the StarCraft"!! It mean, the "Rocket" send "the Starcraft" to the space and conquer the basketball Universe!
These are the worst nickname ideas that I have ever heard. I'm not saying that any of them will take. I just refuse to use them. Let's just call him Yao until something good comes along.
