They're both okay actors who have done some good movies. They don't have a lot of range (kinda like George Clooney and Ben Affleck, only a little more dynamic)
I liked Depp in Finding Neverland, Blow, Dead Man, Fear and Loathing, and Donnie Brasco. He's a very good actor imo.
Had to go with Robert Downey on this one. Personally I've never seen a Johnny Depp movie that was any good. I think he's very over rated. Just my two cents.
Of all the "pretty boy" types in Hollywood, I think Brad Pitt is at or near the top. He's one of the few that has shown the ability to be truly dynamic in his roles. One of my favorite performances: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ioBueVTZ0RM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> It's such a shame Heath Ledger died. That guy was an amazing talent (and not just his Dark Knight performance
Those putting down Denzel, Downey Jr. and Depp...let's see, how can I say this politely....have no ******** idea what the ****they are ******** talking about.
Depp is awesome. Forest Whittaker > Denzel But I just placed two black actors together in comparison for no reason other than they are both black. Anyone dare to start a thread: Best Black Actors Evar! If so, don't leave Forest off that list, or I will be hugely pissed.
Denzel does play the same character over and over. RDJ has played a few different characters - but even then, they are fairly close to the others. His best roles that showed his ability was in Less Than Zero, Chaplin, and Tropic Thunder. Other than that, his roles tend to be similar characters. Depp only plays a lot of quirky characters because of his friendship with Tim Burton. If you look back on his non-Burton characters, there is a lot of Diversity with The Ninth Gate, Johnny Brasco, The Astronauts Wife, Blow, and of course the original TV show 21 Jump Street. Even when Depp plays the quirky roles, characters like Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, and Willy Wonka are wildly different characters.
Downey has a lot of natural charisma that shines through quite well in his acting. It's a good quality to have as an actor, and not very common. Michael J Fox also had that. But, I think that's also why peolpe think Downey plays the same character every time -- because his charisma is always there. As to their skills in acting, they're both good. Why compare?
