That's exactly the reason I asked the question, because of the argument they had about it in that movie.
***Spoilers*** that is better ending. The thing i hatred about the grudge is that they do not explain anything, absolutly nothing, in the ring they at least explained something. Maybe you can tell me why: Why did the child make sound of a cat? Why does Sarrah Michelle Gellar when she showers something on her head? What does the suicide of the teacher have to do with anything(i know the girl gets killed because of him but still)? The curse is it the man, woman or child? The child was drowned right? i forgot a couple of other things they just didn't explain. it was just a terrible movie. *** end spoilers***
Maybe I saw the uncut version or something...but it was just too drawn out. You can only build up so much suspense until you have to have something happen. It was very good story, just too long. By the end of the movie, I was just ready for it to end, didn't really care what happened. That may be why I thought the ending was disappointing.
Excellent choice. I was about the same age as the kid in Shane when I saw that movie, and it was easy to identify with that kid. It's still one of my favs.
I also loved the end of Big Fish -- but it could have just ended with the fish (his Dad) swimming up the creek As a 12 year old I was devastated by the end of Night of the Living Dead -- the last guy living was shot in the head.
I thought of another great ending --- but unfortunately the movie kept going The end of Bad Santa <spoiler> Billy Bob's character being shot on the steps of the house with his arm outstreched holding the elephant the boy wanted. --- It was hilarious
Yeah forgot about that one and while were at it we should add Dr. Strangelove to the list of great endings.
Another Kubrick fan here - I think that "Barry Lyndon" was one of the most underrated movies ever. A lot of people like to hate on it because it is a costume piece and long (I think it is like 4 hours) but it is classic Kubrick. The way the scenes are shot, the deterioration of the characters, the usual "Stanley" themes.
Best endings: "Casablanca" "On The Water Front" "Short Cuts" "A Clockwork Orange" "King of Comedy" "The Lady From Shanghai" "Old Yeller" (sob) Worst Endings: "Magnolia"
The thing about Juon, it doesn't really explain things much better than the Grudge in terms of when the nurse (SMG) realized what happened in the house at the end, her epiphany or watever..that was really the one bad thing about it. However, Juon is longer and gives more time for the story develop, so where things in the Grudge might have felt rushed and unexplained they aren't in Juon. ***spoilers*** 1) Juon doesnt explain the boy making the cat noise better. But on the extras for the Grudge they explain that when the father killed the boy, something like he killed the boy and the cat at the same time and they got fused together as a ghost. Something to that effect. 2)In Juon, the scene is a lot better...because the woman is actually in the shower with her and that's her hand on her head. And you actually see the woman in the top corner of the shower in Juon. Now why's she's there I dunno, prob cause she's just following her around. 3)You got me. The teacher's story was added just for The Grudge, it doesn't exist in Juon. So my guess is he felt incredible guilt for her death so he took his life. 4)I think the curse is the woman and child, cause they died in an extremely traumatic way, which creates the curse. Now why the father killed the detective at the end is beyond me (cuase I didn't think he was a part of the curse). I think that was a total punk way to die, cause the detective in Juon actually had a whole story unto himself which was really cool. And it's actually the detective after losing all his partners that worked on the original case (who all died from the curse) who tries to burn the house down. He is never killed by the father, no one is, in Juon. 5)I guess so, that's what it looks look to be in The Grudge. In Juon, they don't explain really anything about what happened to the kid. So neither story really explains everything as they should. But the grudge is worse cause its more Hollywood and it subsituted a good sub-story involving the dective and his former parter(s) and his former parter's daughter (who went into the house as well w/ her friends) for a stupid story involving a teacher that really had nothing to do w/ the curse. Plus, there's no boyfriend in Juon, for better or worse.
Holy hell, I haven't seen that movie in ages. You're talking about the one with Paul Winfield and Darius McCray, right?
Thanks JunkyardDwg. juon sounds alot better. when i saw the movie i thought that the cop would have been a good side story(because they something about him). Maybe Í will try to see Juon. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me
Best Ending - Field of Dreams (When he plays catch with his dad, it always gets me choked up) Worst Ending - Hell in the Pacific (In WW2 an American and a Japanese shoot each other down and wind up on a deserted island. They fight each other for most of the movie, but eventually make peace and build a makeshift boat and sail to another island. Then they find a deserted bunker. They find some booze in the bunker and pour themselves a drink. As they are toasting each other a bomb lands on the bunker and kills both of them. Very weird ending.)
