You know that was based on a true story, don't you? The movie followed closely to the actual events. The ending to the movie "Body Heat" is one of the best ever. When William Hurt reads that line out of her graduation year book....classic. One of my all time favorite movies is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". While I was disappointed in the ending, they did it for a reason...they ran out of money, and just decided to stop filming.
Sorry DHR, but that movie is a classic. And as Behad said, it was based on a true story. John Cazale who played Sal in the movie (the bank robber that got shot) was in only 5 (essentially 5) movies - The Godfather, The Godfather II, Dog Day Afternoon, The Conversation, and The Deer Hunter - all 5 in the IMDB top 250. Sadly he died of bone cancer shortly after finishing The Deer Hunter (he was engaged to Meryl Streep at the time of his death).
Before Sunset had an outstanding ending. Very few endings sit with me like that did. Nothing shocking or cheap. Just perfect.
Best ending: Big Fish - I cried when I saw the characters at the end... [STFU, YES, I did CRY ] Worst Ending: Rain Man - WTF? No hey-brother-i-will-exploit-your-poker-winning skillz ending??? What gives...? And TOM CRUISE just sucks major ass
francis 4 prez i agree with you on galdiator. but about the grudge, i didn't see Juon. But the ending of the grudge was just such a cliche. and just badly done i'll explain ***Spoilers*** ok so she tried to burn the house down. She is now in the hospital. The cops say: we could save the house.( So EVERYBODY knows that that ghost thing is still alive and will be in the next shot). So she goes to her dead boy friend. And then the creature appears next to her(EVEROBDY knew this would happen so nobody is spooked by it). A better ending would have been. She is in the hospital and goes to her dead boy friend. The suddenly you see the creature behind her, and when the picture gets black you hear on the background the cops saying: at least we saved the house. It is not a perfect ending, but the movie sucked so the ending will not make it good. *** end spoilers*** can anybody tell me how the original planet of the apes ends? the new movie had a terrible ending, but i hope the original has better. thanks
i hope that was for the 'best endings'. as for the worst....hmm i'd say Saw and The Village are the ones that come to mind as of this moment.
Worse Ending: House of Flying Daggers... the movie was good up until the ending... *SPOILER*I was ready to kill the girl myself, she just wouldnt die...
for me the village had an ending halfway through the movie. But is indeed suck. (there are so many bad movies made in the last couple of years)
Good Endings that: Gives you a good mindf*ck: Sixth Sense Seven Usual Suspects Fight Club Gives you a sense of redemption for the protagonist: Gladiator Shawshank Redemption Kill Bill Gives you a sad feeling for the protagonist but was a great ending anyways: Forrest Gump The Terminal Man I love movies...
The original Planet of the Apes ending is one of the all time classic movie endings. ****Spoiler**** Astronaut Taylor (Charleton Heston) and mute primative human Nova (wearing a bikini made of rags FYI) ride off along the coast of the Forbidden zone. They've already helped the Chimp scientist Dr. Cornelius prove that at one time humans like Apes also talked. After awhile Taylor stops and gets on his knees in the sand and yells, "Damn you! Damn you all to Hell! I'm Home!" The camera pans out and you see the Statue of Liberty in RUINS and half buried in a cliff face. Anyone who only knows the Planet of the Apes from the Mark Wahlberg remake definately need to check out the original series particularly the first two.
thanks. saw the old movies once but that was years ago. That ending made sense. unlike that terrible new movie
I liked the following endings: - perfect world - thelma & louise - wild at heart - american beauty there are too many bad endings to put down..........
***spoilers*** Ahhh see, the fact that she was even alive at the end was such a Hollywood cliche and defies the logic of the story. In Juon, Sarah Michelle Gellar's character dies. In fact, that movie does a much better job of showing how once you come into contact w/ the curse you become f****ed yourself. So one of the last shots has the whole damn city littered w/ missing person's posters. Because, everybody ends up becoming connected w/ that house in some way or another and dies. That is a lot better ending than the lead character trying to burn up the house only to live because the dead wife didn't kill her right then?! Besides, not only that, but The Grudge cut out a huge chunk of story line from Juon that would have made the movie better in my book. ***end spoilers*** just curious, but why did you not like Saw's ending.... I thought it was one of the best of the year by far.
Lieutenant Danny Roman: I like westerns, like Shane. Lieutenant Chris Sabian: It's interesting that you pick one where the hero dies. Lieutenant Danny Roman: What are you talking about? He doesn't die. He rides off into the sunset, and that kid says "Come back, Shane!" Lieutenant Chris Sabian: That's a common misconception, in the last frame he's slumped over on his horse. Lieutenant Danny Roman: So he was slumped, slumped don't mean dead. Lieutenant Chris Sabian: Well I guess you think Butch and Sundance lived too.
sishir, i'm with you on kubrick, also one of my favorites. i was gonna mention 2001 myself. i'll add the ending to a clockwork orange as a kubrick great ending. batman, henry fool was a great film, have you seen or heard about thom pain? http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/thom1267.htm i'll add another movie by another of my favorite directors, fassbinder: a merchant of four seasons. brutal.
