I was hoping you'd weigh in... Is that what you recommend to your clients? I was taking that exclusively for 2 years and after reading the message boards on bodybuilding.com back in January - i started mixing in Muscle Milk and ON's Gold standard - b/c the common thoughts there were that those were "better" than the rest...
For the anti-before work protien crowd: "A 2001 study at the University of Texas found that lifters who drank a shake containing amino acids and carbohydrates before working out increased their protein synthesis (their ability to build muscle) more than lifters who drank the same shake after exercising. Since exercise increases bloodflow to tissues, the theory goes that having whey protein in your system when you work out may lead to a greater uptake of amino acids -- the building blocks of muscle -- in your muscle." Personally I think it helps with my recovery post-workout as well. I have used ON off and on for years. Love it.
I just started buying this from Wal-Mart. $14 for 30 scoops, which is 2 weeks if you do 2 scoops a day like I do. In other words, $1 a day which is reasonable. It's 220 calories, 4 gram of fat, 52 grams of protein. With 8 oz. of skim milk, you're looking at 300 calories, 4 grams of fat, 60 grams of protein. Sure it's going to be looked at as a "budget" protein drink, but those numbers are hard to beat.
BB.com still gives me 5.99 shipping if i price match strange ive read tons and tons of articles on BB.com, and numerous people say that you dont need to take Protein before workout, just lots of complex carbs. Why would having whey protein in your system whie working out lead to a greater uptake of amino acids?
thats a misconception, all whey protein shakes give the same amount of protein per gram, its just that they all have different measures sizes, thats how companies fool you.
Lol, that's funny. I just bought the Perfect Zero Carb Isopure (Strawberries & Cream though). From the specs, mine looks like it's 210 calories for 2 scoops and 50 g of protein. I'm not sure if I'm gonna mix it with milk or not yet. The Strawberries and Cream Isopure doesn't taste so hot with the 12 oz of water they recommended blending it with. $14 though huh? I guess I just got raked over the coals a little. I paid about $40 for 44 scoops give or take. Then again, hell, it's a protein shake. I guess the motto is chug and keep quiet pretty much, lol.
I actually prefer mine with water. It seems to mix more thoroughly and less chunky means it goes down faster. It doesn't taste as bad as some protein drinks I've tried, but it's not exactly something I look forward to either.
What is a misconception though? I looked at some other protein powders that cost more and have a higher calorie to protein and/or fat ratio per serving. Even if the protein per gram is the same, you have to take the other things into account. So like I said, for the price, it's a deal.
I just bought a box of power bars. They have 26 grams of protein per bar. Is this a good pre workout thing to eat?
I agree, Vitacost.com is the best. I buy $75 worth of protein powder from them every month. There is always this 8% off coupon code available to reduce your final price.
Here's my post-workout shake: 2 scoops whey protein vanilla 2 scoops oatmeal 1 scoop peanut butter 1 spoon glutamine 1 banana 2 oz fruit juice 6 oz water ice blend that together and it will do wonders for ya.
For the protein-per-calorie or protein-per-dollar, Isopure can't be beat. Although it takes some getting used to the taste...
do you mean this? Syntha is probably the best tasting shake (sans fat) that I've ever had. Problem with it is that its about half the protein of Isopure. I recommend this or Muscle Milk Light to my clients looking for fat loss with lean muscle gain without sacrificing taste.
