I'm a sports journalist and am just a year out of college. I went to St. Mary's University (TX) with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science. I wrote for my college paper for a year, but have been writing for websites for about 6 years. I actually did an internship with the Rockets, writing for the website before being discovered due to my work at other online sports sites. Got picked up as a sports reporter for a daily paper in Katy, but that went under in July. Now, I'm the sports editor for the 1960 Sun newspapers, a group of five weeklies that covers HS sports in the Cy-Fair and Klein school districts. I also freelance for other papers in my spare time.

I would suggest doing some freelance work. I know dailies and weeklies are always looking for stringers/correspondents since there are so many games to cover. Develop your portfolio, make connections (this is amazingly important) and just never stop writing. I'm hoping to be writing for a major metro paper in about 2-3 years. Good luck, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know.
