I don't know where that knowledge is coming from, but it is false. PG-13 had been talked about before that. That's why I remembered the whole BeastMaster thing. They were on all of the "Good Morning America" shows talking about it. And I've also seen that Beastmaster was actually released in 1983, not 1982. I was there. I remember.
Then find one single solitary shred of evidence, please. From the MPAA website: Your movie came out in 1983. I'm sure you remember better than the actual MPAA, though.
The hostility in your posts is getting quite annoying. Considering I vaguely remembered the movie solely because of all of the ruckus it caused, yet I had to go find out what the actual title should be proof enough that it actually happened. As I said, there was a lot of talk when this movie came out about it being the first movie designated with a PG-13 rating. Did the MPAA change it back to PG after a week? After it opened? Right before it opened? That I don't know. But to say PG-13 wasn't thought of before Indiana and Gremlins is wrong. I was old enough to remember. You were not.
This coming from you? Wow. I find it hard to believe that the MPAA would rate a movie PG-13, rate a movie PG-13 then change it back, or discuss rating a movie PG-13 and there not be one single thing about it on the entire WWW. Everything mentioning the first PG-13 movie either discusses a) Gremlins and Temple of Doom being the motivating factors, b) Red Dawn and The Flamingo Kid being the first movies and c) 1984 being the first year it was used. You were wrong. It's not that hard to admit. * *Sorry if any of the above was hostile to your fragile feelings.
Sorry to get back on topic, but 3 very good war dramas that I haven't seen listed, (maybe I just missed them) are "Midway" "U-571" and "Battle of the Bulge".
Sooo....PG-13....anyway, Even though it isn't a "Movie", I think Band of Brothers as a "war" flick with battles and personal stories far eclipses everything on the current list. Let us not forget a notable omission: Battle of The Bulge--awesome, awesome flick My favorite movie in the group though? Schindler's List, hands down. God, I will have Itzhak Perlman's violin haunting my thoughts for the rest of the day now...
Uhhh, if I am wrong, why would I remember all of this commotion about this one particular movie? I can be wrong about a lot of things. Not this time. Whether or not this movie actually got a PG-13 rating? That I may be wrong about. That they didn't discuss this movie being PG-13? Uh uh. I'm dead right on this aspect. I'd bet my life on it.
I'll give you two out of those three, U-571 was pretty dissapointing in my opinion... but I still liked it because it was a military/war movie and I rarely see one of those that I don't like... well, except for Three Kings and Buffalo Soldiers.... hated both of those.
I remember. The Beastmaster was rated PG. But there was a big uprising in the media about this. They all said that it actually should have been rated R. I remember going as a kid to a PG movie and felt like I was getting away with something because according to the news outlets, it should have been rated R. Perhaps that is what Fatty is thinking of?
The first movie widely released with a PG-13 rating was Red Dawn... end of discussion. Who cares what was "talked about it" before hand? Actually who cares about the MPAA ratings in the first place... there has been a much better topic already touched on here, WAR MOVIES!
That could be it. There is no doubt that it was never rated PG-13 as the MPAA's website itself said that the rating was first used in July 1984. He was wrong in saying that Red Dawn was not the first movie released with the PG-13 rating.
Ha ha. "Proof" is apparently not a field of your expertise, Fatty. I voted for Apocalypse Now although I've heard it bears little to no resemblance to the actual state of things during the war, so I more or less consider it a fictional setting. Saving Private Ryan was really good too, but I found it so nerve-wracking to watch that I've only seen it once. All of these movies were good, though, it's a good list.
Beastmaster's competitors were all rated R. Read the 2nd paragraph of this article, that could explain it: http://deseretnews.com/movies/view/1,1257,148,00.html
Another good war movie was "Live the Dream -- The Texas Longhorns' Magical March to the 2005 Championship."
I just happened to watch apocolypse now (redux) the one they redidd and is much longer on some HD channel i have on time warner. I really enjoyed the movie. Have to say it ranks up there as one of my favorites now.
