Metroid is still my favorite. My jaw hit the floor when Samus was revealed to be a woman. I thought the Precursor twist at the end of Jak 3 was very well set up and had great payoff. I also thought the final credits of Sly 3 were excellently done and wrapped up the series well. The Sly wink was perfect, and the bit about Dimitrius still makes me laugh: "I am here. Wish you were fine. Like me."
i didn't finish most old school games, but i was very happy at the end of Ultima III.... chronicles of riddick and bioshock were cool. deus ex, the thief series also cool.
Agree with FF3. Also throw in Secret of Mana. Man - you have to kill the mana beast, which looks like your dragon!? so sad.
This is a tough one. I just wanted to reply to say that. I'll have to ponder this and keep this as my placeholder in this thread. I will say that KOTOR was easily one of the best all-time games and that it's sequel had a dumbass ending.

I love that ending. That is the best I can think of in recent memory. But its more than that even. Griggs carries your body to safety and then is gunned down. Gaz gets executed and right before they execute you and Captain Price (one of the biggest bad asses in any video game), he slides you his pistol. Everyone dies except for Soap. I can't think of what I would consider as my best ending, but I just finished RE5 with a friend and I was a little disappointed in the ending to that game.

BRAID Has the best ending. Get this, The 1st level is the last level and you don't even know it until the end when you find out the linear straightforward game you just played isn't so as it seems and you actually played the entire game BACKWARDS. You spend the whole game playing as if your some super mario hero dude trying to save the princess in a story to end up finding out you really were more of the villian and the story was much much deeper and you played the entire game backwards w/o knowing The story you followed isn't actually the story but you find out the real story at the end and your left their in awe like WHOA THAT IS AWESOME I HAD NO IDEA @datfambam said: It turns out as part of a twist ending, that by running the last level backwards, it reveals that Tim is in fact the villain and is trying to abduct the Princess, while the Knight is actually the hero and rescues her. I really liked the ending of Blade Runner (waiting for Deckards response). That was just a good ending, especially since there were more than one ending, it depended on how you played the game. I loved the game at the time. I really hated the ending of Never winter nights 2.
Agreed, badass ending. I remember when I was at that scene I fired a bunch of shots at Zakhaev then got gunned down quickly by his guards. Then I went back and killed the armed guards first. Still, a great ending to a pretty damn good game. It was well worth the anticipation leading up to the moment. Especially after all the headaches of blowing up the tanks and heading through the underground lair.
