Nice! Love that version. Couple other good unplugged cuts that spring to mind are: Jeffrey Gaines' version of "In Your Eyes" U2's unplugged versions of "Stuck in a Moment" and "Ground Benath Her Feet" Thom Yorke's set at the Bridge School Benefit - especially "Paranoid Android" Radiohead - "Creep" and "Black Star" Almost all of REM's first MTV Unplugged performance A random version of Elvis Costello doing "Pretty in Pink" that's floating around the Internet Page/Plant doing "Gallows Pole" Pearl Jam's Bridge School Set from 1999 I also saw Beck do an unplugged show in LA several years ago that was amazing. Actually, the entire Bridge School lineup in 1999 was great -- Pearl Jam, Neil Young, the Who, Brian Wilson, Billy Corgan/James Iha, Sheryl Crow, Green Day, and Lucinda Williams. (For those of you who don't know, the Bridge School Benefit is an annual show put together by Neil Young of unplugged performances. Of course, in many case (like the Who that year) unplugged translates into "acoustic guitar/electric bass/full drum kit" line-ups that end up quite loud!) There's tons more on my laptop at home -- I'll check it out later and post some more.
In addition to bootleg cuts, there are entire "unplugged" albums that are worth mentioning. I'm thinking more along the lines of studio albums, though, and not live performances a la Nirvana's MTV Unplugged (a true classic). Albums like: Tracy Chapman/Tracy Chapman Springsteen's "Nebraska" Dylan's "Freewheeling Bob Dylan" Lucinda Williams first few albums on the Folkways label Richard Buckner's "Bloomed" EDIT: Beck's "Sea Change" Just thought of another live album, too: Townes Van Zandt's "Live at the Old Quarter" More random acoustic cuts are coming to mind: any of SRV's acoustic stuff (especially "Life By the Drop") Lyle Lovett's haunting version of "Friend of the Devil"
the whole alice in chains mtv unplugged. other than a couple i like all the acoustic versions better than the originals.
There are too many acoustic classics to name one as the best. "This Land is Your Land"- Woodie Guthrie "Yesterday"- Beatles "Blowin in the Wind"- Bob Dylan "We Just Disagree"- Dave Mason
One of the most underrated guitar players in rock history. To get a taste of how great Nils Lofgren is, check out his solo for the song "Murder Incorporated" from Bruce Springsteen's "Live in New York City" HBO special back in 2000. Dude shreds like a mofo.
Funny that so many people voted for "Man Who Sold the World" as it's not technically unplugged. Kurt snuck a distortion pedal into the studio specifically for that song. You can even hear him jokingly cough as he takes it out on the Unplugged in NY album. My favorite unplugged album is "Stripped" by the Rolling Stones, and my favorite track on there is "Angie". I usually recommend this album to people who aren't familiar or don't like the Stones. It's an amazingly soulful live album.
that's the first stones album i ever bought. i wasn't paying attention and just looking at the tracklisting i picked it up thinking it was a greatest hits album. still kind of is. that version of angie is by far my favorite, way better than the studio recording. wild horses as well.
"state of love and trust" pearl jam plus the whole beyonora concert cd is pretty great... all the other mentioned are great too.. don't think anyone mentioned sublime's post death acoustic cd... "by the rovers of babylon," "krs-one", all very good IMO... "Where have you been last night" Nirvanna (I think that is the name of the song, not sure) you got to respect any rock band that can take something off it and still sound just as good... sign of true talent.
