I'm not trying to pigeon hole anyone. I put "Rock Guitarist" because you hear all of those guys played on Rock stations. That doesn't mean that SRV isn't a great blues guitarists. That's also why I added an "other" category.
Also for "Mr can't be a great Rock and Blues Guitarist" apparently the Grammys disagree. 1984 Best Traditional Blues Album for Blues Explosion (Various Artists) 1989 Best Contemporary Blues Album for In Step (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble) 1990 Best Contemporary Blues Album for Family Style (The Vaughan Brothers) 1990 Best Rock Instrumental Performance for "D/Fw" (The Vaughan Brothers) 1992 Best Contemporary Blues Album for The Sky Is Crying (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble) 1992 Best Rock Instrumental Performance for "Little Wing" (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble)[11]
There is no Blues instrumental. Their choices were Rock Jazz or Classical. I think Rock is a better fit there. Also both of those songs are on the Blues albums listed directly above them. And "v" is in the mandarin alphabet!
And why is "rock" the better fit? Perhaps because he is a great rock guitarist. For that matter why is SRV played on Rock stations? There is no Mandarin alphabet.
Ask the Grammy people when they gave him the award in 1990 for Best Contemporary Blues Album. On which the "Rock" song was on.
Yes the recognize he is both a great blues and rock guitarist. Again you are the only one seeking to pigeonhole him.
for a guy who isn't a "rock legend", he sure is considered "legendary" amongst 90% of the "rock" fans I know. labels are stupid. as are the grammy folks.
What about the guitarists from Los Lonely Boys? Aren't they from Austin or San Antone? Their style was definitely influenced by SRV. On the prevailing issue, I'm ok with putting Stevie in the Rock category.

I do not like these subjective threads. How do you define "best"?? Best tone? Fastest fingers? Most Grammys won? Longest career? Most records sold? That being said...I am totally pissed at each and every one of you for not mentioning me!!!
Yes, end the Grammy appeal to authority argument now. Any group that gives Album of the Year to people like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston have no cred.
