Udipi Cafe on Highway 6 (Missouri City/Sugarland near a Walmart) or Udipi Cafe on Hilcroft Both have good food. For lunches on weekdays, the Highway 6 one has a good buffet that seems fresher than the Hillcroft one. Do it Moes, and watch Aziz Ansari after you wake up from your food coma.
Way off. That's Pakistani food. Bismillah is the best for that. Royal is decent too. Udipi has a lunch buffet, which includes one masala dosa. Shri Balaji Bhavan is better though. Aga Juice opened very close to these places. Their mango shakes are ridiculously good. They only have this when mangoes are in season though. No pulp for me!
I'm Pakistani, and unfortunately have only had South Indian food once...in Tokyo of all places. It was pretty delicious.
Hell yeah me too! Moestavern should try the curry spot in pearland. Its west indian food. Like chicken curry and whatnot. Its not your "typical" indian curry with yogurt. Its different and good, ya ll should try it.
Mantra Fine Indian Cuisine US 59 and Williams Trace. Kiran's Westheimer near Highland Village Indika Westheimer near Montrose Be prepared to bring cash for the last two but WELL WORTH IT imo.
West Indian food is amazing. Had tons of "rotis" when I was up in Toronto for work last year. Y'all run that city, by the way...
some good and some bad recommendations in here: savoy and royal are not south indian...lol. royal is not good and savoy is good. mogul is definitely not south indian. pretty good though. bismillah is my favorite for pakistani/north indian food. udipi cafe on hilcroft imo is not good. they much put a **** load of msg in there or something. i ate a little bit and left feeling like i had swallowed a rock. sri balaji is pretty good. madras pavilion is avg. kirans sucks ass and its not south indian. paying for the chefs name. i mean seriously....this place sucks! indika is a fusion of indian and french. ehh... as heydude pointed out...shiv sagar is easily the best. from their pani puri to bhaji pao to dosas...everything is kick ass. who is going? im gonna tag along im so hungry now.
I understand Indika, but how are the other two not authentic. Just because they do not have dosas does not mean they are not authentic. I think you are confused by the difference between cafe food and restaurant food. Everyone keeps mentioning cafes that have cheap food at cheap prices.
The flavors are heavily catered towards those who are not Desi. They put a ton of cream in many of their dishes
Mayuri is on Westheimer, and it is NOT good. If you want kickass fusion food, go to Indika on Westheimer near Montrose. You will NOT be disappointed. It's a little pricey, but it's WELL worth it. Go to brunch on Sunday, just let the waiter bring out whatever he wants. All the waitstaff is trained to know how to mix and match foods based on their customer's tastes, and it's awesome.
