when I think of soft rock, Toad the Wet Sproket and Gin Blossoms comes to mind, but that's alternative to most people. "All I Want" Toad the Wet Sproket is one of my all time favs which that and Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" are the first 2 songs I look for at Kareoke Bars "Until I Hear it from You" by Gin Blossoms "Drive" by Incubus
The Cars are a great band and their debut is one of the greatest debut albums ever, but I wouldn't call them "soft rock" - more new wave/pop than anything else. I'll nominate "That's All" by Genesis.
