    According to Pele an African nation would/will win the wc by 2010. That lets you know all you need to know about the great one's insight. (and I'm part african but I ain't stupid enough to believe that).

    This debate always begins and ends with two players- Edson Arantes do Nascimento and Diego Armando Maradona. Then you move on from there.
    IMHO it ain't even close, No one comes close to Pele. You could find no less than 5 of Maradona's equals on the Brazilian teams Pele played on but you can never find anyone else on Pele's level. Then you move onto their reputation off the field and the level of respect they get and Pele and Muhammed Ali are on another stratosphere compared to Maradona and other athletes. Just ask Zaire(DR Congo)and Nigerians when Ali and Pele visited those countries.

    DD, Are you serious??? Because if you are I will never respond to anything you post on this board.
    First off, as any person from Brasil will tell you, Pele spouts off way too much and people in Brasil take whatever he says with a grain of salt. But no one! and I mean no one doubts that he is the greatest player to ever grace the pitch (except argentines :rolleyes: )

    Not old enough to know some of the names mentioned here. But I watched every one of the clips in this thread and I conclude that Pele is the best, followed by a tie between Garrincha and Zidane.

    I vote for Pele as the best player ever...I mean is there really any question for debate as I present Exhibit A:

    I will add though that what Zidane does with a ball and how he could control a game does put him high on my list.

    I think Pele is the biggest player of all-time

    But Platini was very good, maybe in the top 10

    This guy is a combination of power, speed and skill. He might not be as skillful as Pele but I think he's better in every other category.
