SInce this is clutchfans, the best way to defend yourself is to either pull up an incriminating post taken out of context several years ago (usually a commonly held prediction or statement that no one agrees with anymore ie "we should draft Jay Williams instead of Ming") Either that or use a strawman argument, and when the opponent is flustered, use one of those "PWNED" pictures you can find on google, preferably either of a funny car crash or something involving domestic animals.
Just threaten the guy and tell him something like "WELCOME TO MY IGNORE LIST!!!" Then, tell people to stop quoting him because he's on your ignore list. He will never live down the HUMILIATION.
Nobody fights these days. Everyone is so quick to pull out a gun. What good is self defense against a gun?
I wish I had a Krav Maga class I could attend, but there are none by me. This is the best defense technique I have heard about against armed attackers.
Yeah if you definately want to learn martial arts, its going to take some time and dedication to learn. If you want to learn a few things, just YOUTUBE it. Ive been taking mixed martial arts classes for the past 6 weeks, and ive learned so much, have lost weight, and i feel pretty damn confident. You should check out some classes.
Here's the bad news. There is no such thing as an easy to learn self-defense technique. You can be taught tons of techniques but unless you practice them repeatedly they won't do you any good. The best thing I would recommend is studying a combative sport, Judo, Jujitsu, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Boxing and etc... Things like Krav Maga are very good in the techniques they teach you but if you really want to get good you need to develop the physical awareness and reactions that sparring in those kind of sports will teach you. Further the physical fitness and toughness you will get will benefit you greatly. Here's some good news though is that about 90% of self-defense is all psychological. Being aware of your surroundings and assessing potential threats is far far more important than actually having to physically engage with an attacker. The problem is that even if you have mastered many self-defense techniques an attack in the street is unpredictable with many factors that you wan't have in a gym or dojo so it is best to avoid as much as possible getting into a situation where you actully have to physically fight. Myself and another Judo instructor who is an ex-cop do seminars on self-defense for businesses and if you are interested send me an email through CF.net and I will be happy to pass on some of the material from our seminars.
Very true judoka. The self defense classes are great for learning to knock someone out, choke them out or even throw them on there arse before beating them. It’s also great for you physically and mentally. But if you get a good shot to the jaw...........a lot of that technique disappears. The best defense is your brain...don’t put your self in a situation where something can happen. When you do travel, be smart, don’t flash your money or belongings around. I travel alot also and felt completely safe. In Brazil, I was able to walk the streets with the locals and didn’t worry about a thing. Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and boxing are my favorites. Make sure you join a place that has a good instructor. Everywhere I travel I look for a MMA gym or Jiu Jitsu training gym. Some of the places the instructors were teaching incorrect techniques. Do your homework. Have fun.
You can spend years and $$$ learning self-defense, but the best means of self-defense is below - every single martial arts teacher in the world will tell you this: Place your back to your opponent. Move forward at an accelerating pace. Maintain acceleration indefinitely until your opponent is a safe distance away.
"Run! Tell all the other curs the law is comin'! You tell 'em I'm comin'!" "Little piece of advice: you see an Agent, you do what we do; run. Run your ass off..." "You wouldn't believe it if I told you, but I can run like the wind blows. From that day on, if I was going somewhere, I was running." Name those movies. (difficulty: moderate even for you, MB)
