The scene from The Godfather where Michael commits his first (double) murder. Talk about foreshadowing. Also the scene in The Godfather Part II where a young Vito hunts and kills Don Fanucci. More foreshadowing.
The locker room scene before the state final in "Hoosiers" To me, every line and moment in that scene is perfect. I've seen that movie more times than I should admit and when Hackman huddles them together and just says simply "I love you guys", it gets me every time.
I love the scene in Rudy when they're in the tunnel before Rudy's first game and that player grabs Rudy by the facemask and says "you ready for this?" Rudy says "I've been ready for this my whole life." The player says "Good. Then you lead us out there." That scene gets me every time.
the exchange between crawford and christina before crawford "put them hands on that ass" in mommie dearest. crawford: why can't you give me the respect that i'm entitled to? why can't you treat me like i would be treated by any stranger on the street? christina: because i am NOT one of your FANS!!! yep... then it was arse whoopin time.
as soon as i read the thread title the first thing that popped to mind was the final courtroom scene in A Few Good Men. just an awesome movie. however, my favorite scene ever (if 15 minutes can be a scene) is the highway chase scene in The Matrix: Reloaded. starting with Neo fighting the merovingian's men all the way to the 18 wheelers crashing. i remember seeing it the first time and just not believing how long it was going. i was so into it after 9 or 10 minutes and then still got another 5. best action sequence ever. Silence of the Lambs, where hannibal kills the two cops, strings one up on the cell like an angel, then uses the other guy's face to cover his own and escapes. bad ass. Field of Dreams - james earl jones' speech then combined a little bit later with "Hey...Dad?...wanna have a catch?" Only keeping up a macho appearance limits me to getting misty-eyed instead of crying like a little girl after that line. the blow it out your ass scene in The Great Outdoors. i had that thing memorized back when i was like 9. "what it means, what it means, is that i would like to blow uncle roman out my ass. that's what it means." and someone else mentioned A League of Their Own. a great and hilarious movie. my three favorites are: "there's no crying in baseball." Jimmy Dugan's "prayer": Uh, Lord, hallowed be Thy name. May our feet be swift; may our bats be mighty; may our balls... be plentiful" and then my favorite: "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great." one of my favorite quotes in any movie.
Thank you thank you thank you. I was wondering when someone would mention it. My favorite single scene. It is manly to cry during that scene, F4P. I don't think I have laughed as hard at any movie as I did at Dumb and Dumber. The jalapenos in the hamburger, and when one whacks the other in the back of the knees with the cane... classic.
I guess spelled my moniker wrong Godfather II: Vito: Mi chiamo Vito Corleone. Don: Vito Corleone. You took the name of this town! And what's your father's name? Vito: His name was...Antonio Andolini. Don: Louder, I don't hear so good. Vito: My father's name was Antonio Andolini...and this is for you! Best. Scene. Ever.
Great choice! Watch Mildred Pierce and think about that! The revelation of the evil daughter's plan is perfectly curdled.
"I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe... ... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate... ...All those... moments will be lost... in time ... like tears in rain..." "... time to die ..." -- droxford
When i read the title this thread this scene was the first to come to mind. It was perfectly set up with the cat and the someone in the above apartment turning on the light. They had an interesting new documentary on TCM a little while back called "behind the third man" They will probably reair it eventually... Other great scenes: The Good the Bad and The Ugly - graveyard and final shootout. Unforgiven - when the empty wisky bottle hits the ground before shootout. Chinatown - disturbing ending with Noah Cross taking the girl 2001 - last 15 minutes or so
I've always been fond of the scene on Major Payne where he shoots li'l Tiger's closet. "If he's still in there... he ain't happy." Actually, while that's a classic extension of the comedy of the Wayans empire... My fave scene ever (in my lifetime) has to have been in SW:TESB "I.. am your father." -(although some of the added dialogue in the emporer/Vader holographic scene in the new DVD edition really spoils it. Original release was best, it hit you off guard.
Althought more of a miniseries than a movie, the ending of Lonesome Dove gets me every time. When Gus is on his deathbed and asks Capt. Call to take him back to Texas to bury him, it gets me every time. Then at the very ending when Call is walking down the abandoned street in Lonesome Dove and the reporter finds him and asks for an interview and refuses. REPORTER: "They say you're a man of vision" CAPT. CALL: "Yeah. Hell of a vision." Also, most of the scenes from Saving Private Ryan. Too many to name here.
The Terminator - The terminator attempts to get to Sarah Conner in the police station. Fight Club - Norton and Pitt are revealed to be the same guy. American History X - both the dinner scenes and the end where Edward Furlong gets killed. TESB - Vader cuts off Lukes hand and reveals that he is Lukes father. X2 - Nightcrawler's attack on the White House. Red vs. Blue (technically not a movie) - Griff, Sarge, and Simmons discuss naming the Warthog. "Hey Griff, Chupathingy, how 'bout that?" Predator - Mac sees the pred's eyes and starts unloading on the jungle. Saving Private Ryan - The beach landing. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - "Toss me." Really from the Return of the King, Bilbo's passage into the west. Also, from the Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf brightens the crystal on his staff, revealing the splendor of the main hall in Moria.
Old Yeller - After the fight Old Yeller has Travis' mother realizes that the coyote had hydrophobia (rabies). Travis denies it and believes Old Yeller will be OK. After a while Travis goes to feed Old Yeller and he acts very aggressive. Travis sits in disbelief but then realizes what he must carry out. Man On Fire - When Creasy brings the two sides together to exchange himself for Pita. Pita and Creasy meet on the bridge and he tells her where to go and where he is going. Glory - When Trip is getting whipped and he stands like it doesn't hurt then you see one tear roll down his face and know that it is killing him, not the whipping itself but other things as well. Malcolm X - Right before the assassination of Malcolm when they are driving to the speech and Sam Cooke's "Change Gon Come" is playing. Trading Places - When Eddie Murphy is given the rich life by the Dukes he starts acting snobbish. "This is a Persian rug. It's from Persia!" "Who's been putting out they Kools on my floor!" "Get the **** out!" Priceless!
Oh man, thank for reminding me about Trading Places. It has two of my favorite lines in movie history. The first one is where one of the Dukes is trying to lure Murphy into their car. He takes out a bottle of some fine booze and shakes it towards Murphy and merely says, "Whiskey". And the second part is where the other Duke is explaining commodities to Murphy, and when they get to pork products the Duke goes something like, "And this is bacon. Like what you would have in a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich." And with perfect timing, Murphy looks incredulously straight at the camera for a split second. That movie always cracks me up. And the stock market scene is just awesome. Don't know much about the stock market, so that scene is a definite eye-opener.
Greatest Holiday Movie Ever!!! The jail scene with Billy Ray Billy Ray : See I had to wait till the dude had the payroll till I made my move Inmate : tells us how you cut him Billy Ray : I didn't cut him with no knife, i cut him with these. I'm a chain belt in karate, Bruce Lee was my master...watch (starts his karate moves) I call that my quarter blood technique, you do that a quarter blood drop out of a man's body that whole scene is priceless, along with louis winthorp as Santa Claus on the bus and him trying to pawn his watch. The Green Mile When they strap John Coffey into Old Sparky and he doesnt want the bag over his head because he is scared of the dark. Damn that is a tough scene.
