Here are some of my choices. Hakeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson: The legendary twin towers, one of the more underrated duo's ever. They took us to the Finals and everyone remembers that magical tip in by Sampson against the Lakers. I believe if this team wouldn't of been stuck in the Boston-LA era, they would've won at least 2 championships. Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler: This duo gets my vote, they accomplished many accolades together and even though it did not look promising after the 94-95 regular season, they got it done and gave Houston their second NBA championship. One of my favorite moments is when they both broke the 40 point marker in the same game. Yao Ming and Steve Francis: *sighh* nothing like the "almost there" days huh? Even though SF3 and Yao weren't too succesful in the long run, I still had to mention them. The run and gun days, the i got you back if you got mine days. Championships, playoffs or not, when Stevie was at his best and when Yao wasn't too injury prone, this was a fun team too watch. Yao Ming and ....The hated one...j/k Tracy McGrady: *putting on the flame suit, whiping sweat off forehead and taking a deep breath* Well, not the most successful duo but when Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady were at their best...and not injured (rare) they honestly reminded me of the good ol' days (93-95). They were fun to watch and things happened. People actually took the Rockets serious for once since the Hakeem days. I believe if we would've at least won one playoff series with these two, the sky would've been the limit. These are just a few, there are a few other s like Murphy Malone etc. add your opinion.
Hakeem and Sampson - If not for Injury Hakeem and Drexler - Championships The other two is a toss up. Rocket River
Hakeem and Ralph, hands down!!! The level of play in the league was much higher those years than it was during the years the Rockets won their championships, and significantly higher than it is today.
Let me educate you on this: 1. Sampson got injured in the NBA finals vs Boston (we beat the Lakers already). That injury was not taken care off correctly which led to his knee and hip problems, which ended his career. 2. Mitchell Wiggins and Lewis Lloyd who were spectacular open court players and very important to the Rockets were ousted from the league for drugs. That's what REALLY happened to that team. Not because it was the "Boston-LA" Era. We beat LA and proved we could be Boston by taking them to 6 games. Give me that healthy team and have nobody kicked out of the league for drugs and we'd have a new chapter in NBA history.
Give me a healthy Yao and T-Mac this year and we would of won the championship this year most likely. Too bad someone has to get injured... And by the way, I'm not even saying McGrady and Yao is the best duo in Rockets history. Not even close....
