tex winters was before my time, so I can't comment on him. bill fitch I remember, though. funny memory of something you'll probably never see again in the nba... fitch was also quite the motivator. a frontcourt of ralph and akeem was sure to be a handful all the way around if they meshed, which bill accomplished masterfully. defense and rebounding was especially beautiful to watch as the original twin towers snatched boards. in order to motivate dream, bill set a goal for him: 20 boards! every time dream would get to 19 boards, bill would whip out a $20 bill and wave it above his head. as soon as dream got to #20 & came to the bench, the green flag was his to have! imagine players now? a $20 bill? andrew jackson doesn't have that kind of pull anymore! maybe coach can wave a $10 for yao! lol. j/k...kind of...
on 2nd thought, the $20 was for either of the towers. it's just that dream snatched more of them than ralph did. the youngens don't have these memories, and it's too bad. ralph & dream battling everyone and each other for 20 boards? where "bill > phil jackson" happens.
he had an unfair advantage since half the team was coked up. of course you would have good movement off the ball in that case.
I'm happy Don Chaney got a couple of votes he still lives in Houston, next time one of you youngster clutchfans sees him, tell "Thanks, Coach of the Year!"
