    Jimi Hendrix

    Damn good ones:

Flea isn't just a bassist. Flea is an overrated bassist. He didn't do anything Larry Graham and James Jamerson didn't do 20 years earlier.

As for rock guitarists, my favorites:

    Jimi Hendrix
    Jimmy Page
    Eric Clapton
    Eddie Van Halen
    Eric Johnson
    Joe Satriani

Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page. By quite a margin.

    Jimi Hendrix
    Dave Navarro
    The Edge
    Johnny Marr
    Elliot Easton
    Dr. Know
    Jimmy Page

Jeff is right - Flea is not only overrated, but overplays terribly.

There's Jimi and then there's everybody else. I like most of the other guitarists listed, except for the guy in Boston. If you're in the band Boston you suck, even if you are the guitar player.

Shows how little you know about guitarists.

Im not a huge fan of Boston, but to belittle Tom Sholz's achievements in the field of guitar technology and playing is just plain uninformed.

I can't believe that I forgot Johnny Marr! Thanks, sub for reminding me about him.

Also, want to mention Billy Duffy of the Cult who is another underrated guitar player.

Of course by now all the greats have been listed, but I would like to add Lindsey Buckingham. Guy can flat out strum a guitar.

Good call on Cris Oliva. Every time I hear "Alone you Breathe", I think about just how good Chris was and how sad it was when he died.
