Imadrummer....I bow to your superior taste in guitarists RIP Randy... my gods... Randy Eddie VH SRV Jimi Jimmy Page Yngwie Cris Oliva Joe Satriani Steve Vai BB King Adrian Vandenburg would have been a god if he wasnt struck down with arthritis on his frettin hand.
In a class by themselves: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) Jimi Hendrix Damn good ones: Angus Young (AC/DC) Tom Morello (Rage/Audioslave) Flea (RHCP) Kirk Hammet (Metallica)
Flea isn't just a bassist. Flea is an overrated bassist. He didn't do anything Larry Graham and James Jamerson didn't do 20 years earlier. As for rock guitarists, my favorites: Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page Eric Clapton Eddie Van Halen Eric Johnson Joe Satriani
Jimi Hendrix Dave Navarro The Edge Johnny Marr Elliot Easton Dr. Know Jimmy Page Jeff is right - Flea is not only overrated, but overplays terribly.
Tim Reynolds -- plays lots of genres, but he's done some *awesome* rock stuff Steve Vai Jimi Hendrix Warren Haynes Carlos Santana Eric Clapton Slash (from GNR)
Randy Rhodes Stevie Ray Vaughn Jimi Peter Frampton Eric Clapton Jimmy Page Phil Collin (def leppard) ace
Leo Kottke (when he plays rock) Julian Bream (when he plays rock) Best technician: Brian May Best Blues: Tommy Castro Best with effects: The Edge Best Rock Riff Composer: Tom Morello Best Feel: Jimi Best Melodist: Jimi Page Best two solos ever: "I put a spell on you" - John Fogerty "Sweet Child O'Mine" - Slash
Hillel Slovak (RIP) Alex Lifeson Rivers Cuomo (very underrated) Andy Summers The Edge I can't believe RM95 hasn't chimed in with you know who...
There's Jimi and then there's everybody else. I like most of the other guitarists listed, except for the guy in Boston. If you're in the band Boston you suck, even if you are the guitar player.
Shows how little you know about guitarists. Im not a huge fan of Boston, but to belittle Tom Sholz's achievements in the field of guitar technology and playing is just plain uninformed.
I can't believe that I forgot Johnny Marr! Thanks, sub for reminding me about him. Also, want to mention Billy Duffy of the Cult who is another underrated guitar player.
Of course by now all the greats have been listed, but I would like to add Lindsey Buckingham. Guy can flat out strum a guitar.
Randy Vai Eddie Jimi Lynch Satch R2K Good call on Cris Oliva. Every time I hear "Alone you Breathe", I think about just how good Chris was and how sad it was when he died.
