Right on JJ. Today's rap isn't even rap. Tupac - It's just me against the world baby. Public Enemy - Burn hollywood burn. DJ Quick - Quick is the name. Bushwick Bill and the Geto Boys - Can't be stopped. Ice Cube - Jackin for beats Dr Dre - I been there, I done that. Ice T - OG, original gangsta LL Cool J - I can't survive without my radio Too Short - So you wanna be a gangster Kid Frost - Ain't no sunshine And how can I forget the group that started it all for me... NWA **** the police!
I got some more dope rhymes! What about Too Short - In the trunk You cant go wrong with NWA's "Compton's in the House" Ice Cube-Wicked LL Cool J- "You're the type of guy that try to call me a punk, not knowing that your main girl's bitin my chunk"
2Pac was the greatest of all time to me. He could hit you with some really hard stuffsuch as "Hit 'Em Up" or could some serious tunes like "Keep Ya Head Up" or songs that you could dance to like "How Do U Want It" and I could just keep going on and on. Besides 2Pac was voted best rapper on VH1, best MC on BET, and has one of the top videos of all time on MTV ("California Love"). He was simply the best and still is.
You stole my thunder with the Craig Mack reference. If you guys get a chance, check out Phoenix Orion. He's a bit "astrophysical" but the guy has skills.
to me, it's definitely Q-Tip tribe called quest is my favorite rap group of all time....low end theory was great!!! that's when rap was a bit more imaginative than it is today, in my humble opinion.
were the old skoolers (i.e. Run-Dmc, LL, etc.) better at the art of the rhythem rhetoric compared to today's talent?
Man, I was with you on your list all the way till this one... he's right there with Notorious in that category I like to label "why are they popular?!" But I respect your picks.
I know a lot of people like Too $hort, but I'm not a big fan of his. You take the music away and you have the same rap every freakin' time. mr_oily The DOC was one of the greatest of all time. Can't believe I forgot them, too. To add to the list : Bone Thugs N Harmony
Now here's a little story - I've got to tell About three bad brothers - you know so well It started way back in history With Adrock, M.C.A., and me - Mike D.
Esse Martinez from 311 is freaking bad ass at rhyming. How about some love for H-Town: Lil O Fat Pat DJ DMD Tela Three 6 Mafia Buschwick Bill Scarface Willie D Lil Keke
Tela and Three 6 Mafia are both from Memphis. Tela was just signed by Texas labels (first Suave House then Rap-A-Lot).
Doctor, always do the right thing. . . why you want to hurt mase? granted, he was kind of a flash in the pan, and in some ways, was kind of n-sync'ish. but in his brief career, he had some of the cleverest, tongue-misdirecting rhymes I've heard. unfortunately, most of them are too complicated for me to remember exactly, or else I'd quote one here. also, if none of y'all have ever checked out Anti-Pop Consortium, you still need to hear possibly the most astute, jazziest, poetic flows on earth. . . that of Oratory Beanz. A-PC is like de la soul or tribe called quest, only about a hundred times more alternative. but the rhymes! the rhymes! has anyone else heard Beanz?
The Voice of Reason knows the Hard Rhymer when he hears him. [I'm assuming you're a "he", TVOR. my bad if you're not.] but the Hard Rhymer is still the Hard Rhymer.
