Nope. Before Christian's my favorite was Lankfords. But the two are too similar to warrant going to Lankfords mainly because Christians is closer and has beer. My next favorite is Bellaire Broiler Burger, which I believe you went to on one occasion. I like Tookie's quite a bit also, but I'm rarely around there. I've been to Steak and Shake when I was in Memphis and was unimpressed. Backyard Burger was quite good, but the burgers were too small. If I had to guess, I'd say that place was the closest I'd been to having an In-N-Out burger based on what I've read before.
Now, I've definitely had a bad Steak and Shake and even a bad In and Out once. I'm basing my selection on my best experience at each place. I had a meal of a cheeseburger, fries, chili and a shake at a Steak and Shake in Springfield, MO, that was amazing.
I almost forgot about the Billy Goat Tavern in downtown Chicago. Hamborger. Hamborger. Coke...no Pepsi. Good times.
I've never had a bad steak and shake burger and I frequent that Steak and Shake you went to in Memphis. I mean, the premium toping with Portobello and swiss is freaking amazing. Maybe it's your taste buds fatty? It is definitely better than Backyard Burger. Backyard can't compare. Most of thier crap nowadays is undercooked and nasty.
Steak and Shake is about the price of Fuddruckers at half the quality. I'm not a Steak and Shake fan. We always used to go to Katz's Burgers in denTON to get a better burger for way, way cheaper.
You obviously haven't heard that you shouldn't eat White Castle sober. The same rule applies for Taco Bell. For some reason every White Castle that I've been to seems to really make a point of being low class. They almost have no decor inside and instead of having open counters have security barriers, like what you would see at a check cashing place, between the servers and the customers.
For Clutchfans in NorCal is Nations Burgers still around? I remember eating at the one near Cal when I was in school and it was pretty good. They have huge burgers with giant slabs of onions and mayonnaise. The also have really good pie too.
